I get that but I just feel it may be digging a bit into these peoples personal lives.. Like Kevin did make a statement, he doesn't really owe it to anyone to take it further at least for now... even if he's just as hurt as betrayed as everyone else. Also I don't find that tweet he liked super problematic either, but thats just me.

I do agree the band should make some sort of statement that will stop these reddit detectives dead in their tracks.

 

We disagree. He’s a touring member. He’s a voice in this music scene. Take responsibility and ownership of what you say you are or don’t, that’s the call right now.

 

I don't understand what is to gain from the rest of the band taking this long to address this in a statement..

This has become a ridiculously enabling situation for those refusing to believe the victims.

He does. Based on who emailed me? He does.

 

You also have information that isn't available to me. It's hard to equate that information into my line of thinking since I really have no clue what it is.

 

I don’t think you need more information to think the response by those in the band is inadequate. But I think standing by idly while this continues is gross negligence.

 

I don't know where else to put this but in response to some headlines I've seen about Jesse and other creeps, something about the word "misconduct" describing these situations bothers me. Assault, harrassment or abuse seem more fitting.

 

He didn’t deny it because this shit happened. To a lot of women. That’s why. More than have even come public.

 

I wish somebody would just tell me what to do so I could feel better about this.

I guess what I’m saying is... I still don’t get what your job is.

 

Theory? They want absolution. They want forgiveness. They want the idea they did the right thing because they told me something off the record. I’m the confessional.

The women I’ve heard from want to say something to someone that will listen. From one of the biggest scene bands we have to small cult favorites. They know I’ll listen and hear what they say and believe them. And that their voice hit someone. That’s my only thought.

 

In what aspect?

 

I still feel lost. It's still painful. I don't want to go off on a long tangent. I'm just tired of the people trying to discredit the victims. I'm angry about Brian Diaz not acknowledging accusations of the other musicians he's employed by. The list goes on and on. This whole situation just seems to make me feel more detached and lost as time goes on.

Also, it's almost 2:30 in the morning here, and I should go to sleep.

 

In terms of the women that have been through terrible things, I’m glad they’ve got someone like you to message who will listen and believe them. It’s so important to have a safe space. Thanks for being that in this situation for some people who need it.

(Having said that, I’ve worked with quite a few victims of abuse in the past here in the uk and know that hearing all the pain can weigh heavily on you. I hope you’ve got good support around you to take all the hurt. I know there are people here that have your back and support what you do if not.)

So thankful to have stumbled across AP when I was getting into music all those years ago. Reading some of the stuff on Reddit, I hate to think what I could have become if I’d ended up in a different online community! The biggest thing I’ve learnt here is to listen and to learn.

 

After all the several think pieces I've read today, and after seen Jason's comments about other emails sent to him this week, and after flipping through the music I've loved for the last 20 years, I'll be honest: I feel like this whole industry, scene, and part of the music world has been a force for bad. It has made humankind worse, creating victims, enabling perpetrators, and making it seem like sexism is not just normal, but rational and reasonable and righteous and wise. I understand this isn't about me; but the last week has felt like seeing behind the curtain in Oz for the first time.

And of course, the lyrics were there. And much of the toxic community was staring me in the face. I'm ashamed it took something like this for the light bulb to go off. I should have known better as an adult with a career and a wife and mortgage and a life past high school. But I chose not to, and have supported a terrible industry for far too long.

I love music. But I just don't know how to reconcile my ethics with the scene and culture that made the music I love. Jesse Lacey is obviously an extreme case, but the whole lot of them have contributed to this. And by listening and paying money and supporting, I have too. And it breaks my heart to realize that.

 

I understand where you're coming from. But I'd like to remind you that none of us - the fans - are to blame (unless they've internalised misogyny and treat women like garbage and encourage predatory behaviour), and most of us have been stunned and couldn't possibly see this coming. As fans of punk/indie/emo who are aware of what's been happening and care for survivors and support them, we can improve the scene and encourage young, upcoming bands to be better. There's a real cultural change occurring, people here on this site are so incredibly supportive and ready to help others learn. I just hope the actions and beliefs I see here continue to spread.

regarding the label, it’s super telling zack hasn’t tweeted at all since his “statement”. Nothing. It’s been five days. Longest he’s gone without.

 

Is it really so difficult for the band to post something like this and end the attacks on victims? Really disappointing for silence to continue

 

It's becoming more and more clear that the rest of the band are willing to set aside whatever morals and outrage they claim to have, in favor of one last payday. Stay silent, wait for the fervor to die down, announce a final run of shows

 

Not on my watch.
