If that happens it'll be a gradual process that'll lead to lines of PCs that are heavily geared towards making it more palatable to you. Think a Microsoft Steam Machine. I think that's pretty likely but not as close as some think it is, the mainstream is still way too tied to consoles.

consoles are important to gaming. bayonetta 2 only happened because of nintendo. ps+ offering rocket league for free launched it into the stratosphere. microsoft funded cuphead and is now pouring resources into pubg.

Yeah the developer talked about how The Witcher 3 wouldn't have existed in that form if it wasn't for consoles, it would not have made financial sense. It's because that's where the mainstream gamer is. That is why I think it'll be a slow and gradual process lead by Microsoft (unless the overlords decide to sell the Xbox brand and get out of the industry), sped up or slowed down depending on how healthy Sony (which depends on a lot of factors beyond video games) and Nintendo are in the future.

I feel ya on the second point; I've been struggling to find a community of pc gamers. If you ever did want to jump into it, its definitely possible these days to build something at the price of a console and slowly make the upgrades afterward. I put together my first PC for ~320. But again, I understand it doesn't make sense if your social circle plays on consoles only.

It is intimidating at first. I put in at least a few weeks of research when planning out my first build and I still learn as I look to make upgrades, but its a lot easier to get into than most people think.

Most definitely. I mean, I initially built a PC because at the time it was a cheaper alternative for me to play new games, but I still bought a switch and I think Black Friday is gonna be time for me to get a PS4.

No way I play enough to really have a favorite console but I do love my Mario games of all kinds. Never owned an Xbox but I have nothing against them; kind of bitter that all my cousins went that route though because I'm left out of the online play.

Thought I would pop in to say my wife and I were lucky enough to get a SNES classic a few weeks ago. I've since started Earthbound, Secret of Mana, and Super Metroid for the first time each. Feels like I'm taking part in something I missed all those years ago!

Why the fuck have both of my Xbox 1 controllers stopped working all together after slight bumps to the controller? Are they that fragile?

I couldn't be more opposite. I'd rather play a linear and story driven game than massive open world one, 95% of the time

I've always seen that building a computer is cheaper than consoles

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

Really depends on the components, building a custom pc can get pretty expensive.

True but considering new consoles come out every few years and cost $400+ you could easily upgrade your PC components likely for less.

Agreed, however not many people think long term like that. They see that initial cost increase and go console. I personally have a custom built pc for pc gaming and a xbox one S

I mean, not really. My PS3 lasted me over 10 years. That's like £30 a year it cost me. My PS4 will do the same. PC's need to be upgraded constantly to run the highest spec games, and each bit costs hundreds. I had loads of PC gamer mates at Uni and they plowed hundreds and hundreds into their rigs with new graphics cards and all that, whereas I sat back safe in the knowledge that my PS4 is going to last a decade and I'll be able to play every game released for it without needing to upgrade.

The initial investment in building a PC that can run games to the same standard as a console is less, or so I've heard. But keeping it up to date requires investment. Games are wayy cheaper too, but PCs miss out on a lot of exclusives, unfortunately.

I would not count on a lifecycle as long as the one the PS3 and 360 had but your point is still valid

Apparently I like bad games because I loved Fallout 4 and am currently loving Mass Effect Andromeda
