That's how I approached them as well. It was hard at first but I feel like I did a good job not feeling completely starstruck. We were just people drinking and talking about life, music, politics and etc.

I don't see why acknowledging that our experiences with band members were pleasant could possibly be a bad look. I've heard all kind of stories of how grumpy they were prior to meeting them. I was scared but was pleasantly surprised and relieved that they acted like good people around me and others hanging out at a bar close to the hotel. No one is saying that they are beyond doing anything wrong, I just felt like I needed to say that at least from my personal experience and it was some long nights drinking and talking, they couldn't be more polite and acted like decent people that I was pleased to have conversations with.

I'd be the first to call them out if they acted improperly regardless how much I admire them, so this is me saying that my personal experience was great. I feel like good stories are important to tell too. Not everything is awful.

this was going around twitter the last few days. i think positive productive interactions with celebrities/band members are important to talk about as long as they aren't being used to justify or silence abusive/bad behavior

I honestly thought that tweet was kind of funny. I don't know who Jack Appleby is so maybe that's why.

I definitely agree it's good to talk about positive interactions. I just am wary on the TBS member praise with the rumblings of a few of them. I'm all for trying to shed a positive light especially when it's for people who do not promote the abusive and misconduct. That post just rubbed me the wrong way and made it seem like there was no chance they could possibly do any wrong.

Exactly. No one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, is above of reproach. But saying that you can't talk about positive behavior of people involved in the scene sounds absurd to me. If something similar to Lacey's acts would come for any of the bands I'm a fan of, I'd be the first to believe the victims and call them out on it. But we can't act like everyone is like Lacey because then we can give up on humanity too.

Yeah I think everybody here is aware that these interactions are not completely indicative of who they are as people as a whole. I'm just sharing my brief and surface-level interactions. Honestly, I can't think of a bad interaction I've had with a famous musician, so I think I'm very fortunate. But I do appreciate people like Andy Hull, Kevin Devine, or Justin Pierre who were extra nice to me when they could. I certainly do appreciate it.

I think TBS is pretty safe. Was Adam a shitty dude? Probably. Did he cheat on GF's? Probably. But his own wife is defending him and they've clearly moved past that. My wife follows Mishan on Instagram, as do I, and I think they're okay just based on the things she posts. She seems to be well aware of his misbehaviors and I'm sure they've privately worked through them.

He also writes about them yet, so it's no secret that there's an awareness around them.

At least, if allegations like Jesse's were to come out, I would think they'd start popping up by now.

I saw Andy during his RAGC tour in 2012 in Akron and afterward he hung around the outside bar area and him and I just talked about basketball (he's a huge NBA fan) for a good 30 minutes. Manchester Orchestra was opening up for Weezer in Cincinnati the following night and I told him I wasn't going and he goes 'dude, I can get you in if you want' which honestly meant so much to me, but unfortunately I had a work event that night and couldn't go.

I don't think we talked about his music at all, other than talking about the concert the next night. Probably my favorite experience of meeting someone I 'look up to.'

If even Adam's wife will come out and say that you can't conflate alleged cheating with grooming and abusing underage people, I will say the same because of basic common sense. Saying there are "rumblings" like they are getting accused of the same thing that Lacey was is what looks definitely shady to me. And immature.

Positive examples are important. If actual allegations surface about anything other than oh Adam cheated on all his relationships, I'd be with you on this. But conflating Lacey's behavior with "rumblings" seem vile and ill intentioned to me.

I nowhere am equating the two. What he did is disgusting and not comparable at all. It just came off weirdly to me to be praising them. I’m glad they seem to be good people. I’m not trying to trash their name. The post came off weird to me and I apologize that that is the way I took it.

English isn't my first language but I feel like it's pretty clear on my original post that they aren't beyond reproach if people come forward that they were abused by any of them or literally anyone I'm a fan or not of. I'm sorry if my post rubbed you the wrong way, I was just sharing my own anedoctal experience with them.

I think that bringing up TBS is important because, a.) they're in the same tier of Brand New as far as longevity, fanbase, etc., b.) they came up through the Long Island scene, and c.) were exposed to the same contexts and situations that Jesse was.

One of the major 'arguments' by the Jesse defenders is - variation 'everyone did it/it was normal/etc.' If TBS - who have a member (John) who has been thoughtful and outspoken in defense of victims in this situation - have been able to be TBS for two decades without being predators, then that takes away that argument. It isn't an argument most people here need (because the folks here seem to have their priorities straight 99% of the time), but it is one many people need.

I believe that the underage girl thing was rampant among many bands. But if bands like TBS - and Thursday, and Kevin Devine, and others - were not predatory, it shows Jesse's heinous behavior for what it truly is.

I'm not American so I could be getting some specifics wrong, but Jim Beam is a bourbon whiskey, and one of the base level ones. If you enjoy it, look on the shelves for Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve or even Knob Creek, they are all much smoother bourbons that you may love. Makers is my go to.
