I've heard half of it so far and it's sooo good

Oceana forever weirded me out with Birth.Eather. Like music was cool, but really wasn't feeling that "I was almost a victim of abortion" theme on that.

 

Come to think of it, it's really wild to look back at the scene ten years ago and realize just how many Christian metalcore/post-hardcore bands were popular at that time.

 

I get what you mean, but that album is so good, lyrics aside. I'm not sure how familiar you are with music equipment, but the fact that it sounds like it was recorded on Line 6 amps (which have gotten somewhat better but at the time were awful) initially really threw me off and I was like, "wtf is this shit?" but I think it works so well for the album. It has grown on me so much over the years. Also, listening to Birth.Eater. brings me right back to playing Twilight Princess, which is nice. The EP after that and then Polyenso is really great too, imo.

 

The music was great, really like the drum sound on it. I just can't get down with the lyrics haha. I have yet to check out Polyenso.

 

Is Solid State Records still a thing?

 

I recommend it if you like Radiohead at all. Lookin at you too @Larry David

They are but so many bands have either gone totally independent, disbanded, or switched labels. I feel like Demon Hunter is one of their only big bands that’s still active

 

Solid State, Tooth & Nail, and Equal Vision fucking owned the scene at one point

 

Like at their height, I was into so many of their bands. Nowadays, I might listen to Underoath or August Burns Red once in a while. Demon Hunter was always so corny to me, like they had great songs but they really reeked of being that band your youth pastor was really into.

 

Forgot Haste The Day, I feel like a lot of their records still hold up.

 

Lol yeah, I never got into Demon Hunter. Definitely pastor metal. I was huge into Oh Sleeper, Underoath, Norma Jean, ABR (Messengers only tbh), The Chariot, As Cities Burn (only their first album was on Solid State then they switched to Tooth and Nail). They had some really good groups.

And yeah I enjoyed that one Haste the Day album with the bird on the cover, I forget what it’s called

 

Pressure The Hinges. I was all about When Everything Falls back when, that album still slays. I forget The Chariot was on SS, love them too. I honestly miss them so much, they were one of the greatest live bands I ever saw and I was so stoked to meet them at Warped one year. I still have my copy of Wars and Rumors of Wars that was stamped printed by the drummer, I got to tell him that I had it that Warped date and we had a conversation about it. Such a cool band.

 

Messengers was mixed so damn poorly in my opinion, the drums would drown out so much of the music.

 

The Minor Prophets was my fuckin jam. I need to relisten to Messengers, I can’t comment on the production, but when it comes to that chug chug hardcore, that album is literally perfect imo.

And yeah The Chariot is fucking incredible and put on such an amazing live show.

I like '68 but it's just not the same. I'm glad he's doing what he wants to do though.

It's not bad, it's pretty interesting in my opinion. I'm now listening to old Norma Jean now that you mentioned it, great shit. Wild that none of the original members are in it now, I know one of them was really, really against Obama.

 

The most recent Norma Jean album is really good and just sounds fucking incredible. Like, the production is fantastic. Redeemer will always hold a special place in my heart, though I don’t think it’s as solid as I once thought.

 

O God is that record for me, I hated it at first but I grew to love it as I got older. Now I think it's one of the best records from that era of metalcore.

 

O God is fucking great. Holds up so well imo. It’s just nonstop insanity

 

Still love the album art on that, it's just so damn bizarre but cool.
