I 100% agree that he should face consequences if he broke the law. Perhaps it's as simple as me not wanting to believe that he's the monster he seems to be.

He should face consequences from us, the “fans”, regardless of the strict law at this point. Years from now we can reevaluate where the band’s legacy is, but for now ... I believe they need to go away.

On an unrelated note, I really hate when people use the term "lynch" in that way, considering what lynching really means. Like no sorry people calling you out on your shitty opinions is not the equivalent of the brutal slaughter of black people for having the audacity to exist.

It’s kind of weird for people who aren’t victims to be postulating what forgiveness might look like imo. That’s going to be different in each case, for each victim, and i think what’s getting people here (myself included) upset is when fans do more hoping for him to find paths to forgiveness than for victims to find peace. Especially since it’s blatantly obvious from the firsthand accounts that nothing of the sort has happened thus far, and especially when that fan focus comes from the selfish place of wanting to enjoy Brand New with a clear conscience or whatever.

he’s a grown ass man, let him make his own amends if he can. Fans absolutely don’t need to be doing that for him.

There's been some incredibly insightful conversation here and nothing mobby about it. I think there's been a larger sea change for a lot of people here in regards to the relationship between artist, the art and entertainment they create, and our support and consumption of it. The reaction here has made me more glad than ever that I'm part of this community.

Jesus, that sub is fucking disgusting. There's someone praising the lyrics as being so much better through this "new lens". How... just... what the fuck.

Of course one of the most popular sites on the internet has some shitty communities. I didn't know the_donald and brand new had so much overlap, but here we are.

/r/transpositive and /r/asktransgender helped save my friends life. It has some of the largest positive communities on the internet and some incredible niche subs aggregating content better than anywhere else. There's a legitimate conversation about certain subs and content mods allow on reddit but I have similar criticisms of many platforms. Different convo.

It's gone. I've done the Prestigious Forum's list for the last few years and, assuming I do it again this year, I'm wondering if I should exclude it. Not really what I've been thinking about in regard to this situation though but I suppose it's important how it is handled.

I used to wonder why everyone always said reddit was so toxic (I mainly read about fitness or look first hand accounts of products I might be interested in. You still have to wade through bullshit) but the brand new sub is just disgusting. Again I shouldn't be surprised based on the crowds at their shows, but damn.

I hear you. And that's basically what I do almost everyday. Usually I can separate myself, but it has been tough.

  15. Yep. Not judging anyone else - I spent two days considering how to move forward, read the Pitchfork article, and went from upset to angry very quickly. Cancelled my limited vinyl. Put my collection up for sale with the proceeds going to RAINN. Like most here, this band meant the world to me at one time, and those memories remain, but I honestly don't foresee myself having a problem never listening to this band again. Plenty of other music that wasn't built upon a pattern of abuse that means just as much to me.

Accusations now about the lead singer of With Confidence. So much for them being shocked and appalled.

  17. my first reaction was "fucking unreal" but honestly i'm not sure why that surprised me. what a fucking idiot

This is basically where I'm at right now. In the past 48 hours I've listened to Phoebe Bridgers, Brian Fallon, and a lot of City and Colour. It's made me feel so much better. We all need a break from this.

And on that note, I have grown to really appreciate C&C's If I Should Go Before You. Maybe it just wasn't what I was looking for at the time (more Sometimes/Bring Me Your Love, as usual :P ), but it's hitting me in all the right ways now. I'm sorry for sleeping on this record.

Don't quote me on this, but I don't recall any underage details in the NOFX book. It's a fucked up read overall, and it's been a while since I read it, but I don't really remember any of them bragging about sexual encounters with minors.

Again, please don't quote me on this, I'd have to revisit the book to be sure.

I feel like the last two Dallas Green albums got the shaft - The Hurry and the Harm is as brilliant as If I Should Go.

    Also.

Brian Fallon is my favorite songwriter on earth (non Julien Baker division). So, I feel like based on your impeccable taste with both Fallon and Green, I should take your rec of Phoebe Bridgers (who I haven't heard of) seriously.

I got a refund on my white SF vinyl

The company was super great about it too, I said I just wanted it cancelled didn't care if I couldn't get it refunded but got one straight away. Now to put the money towards a better cause

I'll get onto it! More suggestions welcome I have a 20+ hour flight tomorrow night so I have plenty of time for new chooonz

  25. Happy to suggest! I've actually been catching up on a lot lately as I start to shape my EOTY list. Strangely enough, I don't have as much singer-songwriter stuff as I usually do, but here are some great 2017 records with a little variety: The National's Sleep Well Beast (indie-rock), Sampha's Process (R&B/neo-soul) and Slowdive's Slowdive (dream-pop). Feel free to follow up if any of them stick with you!
