That works too, but I wouldn't skip over The Illusion Of Safety. You can come back to Identity Crisis later if you generally like what you hear.

Yes, definitely much more religious and less about crises of faith and more directly about his faith. Dustin is a very devout Christian and during their hiatus left to be a youth leader and musical director at a problematic church. He also released some worship music during that hiatus. As for Thrice, a lot of times those themes were addressed in more subtle ways that were open to other interpretations, but on M/m they went too far into overtly-religious territory for me.

Definitely listen to their new one too tho. It's fucking excellent. The song Whistleblower Dustin said is about Snowden but is definitely more about the Mars Hill experience he had with the pastor guy that turned out to be a dirtbag. That has actually becomed my go to Thrice record. More political and feel more a propos in times like these. But yeah Beggars is fucking awesome as is The Alchemy Index. So you really can't go wrong with any of it. Something for you to like in all of those.

No problem. I mean Thrice is my favorite band, and has been since they released Vheissu so I encourage everyone to listen to them. And, like you, I'm agnostic/atheist (it's more complicated than that, but those are the easiest shorthand and this isn't the place to discuss) so I totally get where you're coming from. Sometimes I can get passed it with Thrice because they're so good musically, and Dustin sings/screams with such passion, and I accept and understand his faith and how important it is to him and I don't want to pass judgment on that.

I listened to TBEITBN so much in the wake of last year's US election. And I know it's not official, but I think that record has the only song where Dustin swears.

@littlejohn I also recommend Carry The Fire. Dustin's solo album. It's basically a love letter to his wife. I enjoy that record very very much. Some songs like Carry The Fire I could even picture Teppei playing on them and being Thrice songs. There's some really good stuff on it. There's something dark is so good. As is Of Crows and Crowns.

Did we ever do favorite Thrice songs in the old thread? Mine would be Daedalus. I have recommended to too many people to just listen to that song.

Dustin's first solo album, Please Come Home, is really good too, @littlejohn. Great fall and winter record. His live/acoustic covers album, Thoughts That Float On a Different Blood, is excellent too.

For you, however, I would recommend staying away from his other solo album The Water & the Blood, except for the song "It's Not Enough" which was, I believe, originally supposed to be a Thrice song. It doesn't quite hit the highs of Thrice, but it's an excellent vocal performance nonetheless.

@Kennedy wasn't kidding around on my very first song by Young Jesus. Starting with Maybe Baby EP and I'm already loving this! Promising start for sure.

I don't know if I could pinpoint just one!

    Top 5 would be:

    For Miles
    Red Sky
    In Years To Come
    Under A Killing Moon
    The Whaler

Also More Thoughts That Float On a Different Blood is excellent too. Only 2 tracks and super short but I love those two covers and I listen more often that the album actually.
