You know where else I keep reading “I heard the rumors, but assumed they were only rumors”?

It pops up all over with a lot of people speaking on Harvey Weinstein.

Doesn’t man it is true in this case, but I don’t give any weight to that reasoning.

But I agree, let’s wait for an actual acusation and not some non specific comment.

 

Louis CK's abuse was dismissed as "just rumors". It doesn't mean every rumor is true, but in these high profile sexual assault/harassment cases, it's certainly enough to give me pause. I think about how people like Aziz and Jon Stewart dismissed the allegations or refused to engage with them while female comedians were like, "no, this is happening". Not that every rumor means we have to jump to condemn someone forever, but, just... don't quickly brush them off as nothing, either.

I don't think we'd ever have to worry about Blink. Did they probably sleep around a lot and act less than gentlemanly? Absolutely. Just read Travis' book or listen to any of their early lyrics. But they just don't strike me as sexual predators or child abusers. But I mean this is just me being optimistic about one of my favorite bands.

 

The only reason I’d like to think Blink is safe is because Mark and Travis are total family people, both on record hating people who do things like jesse did. And matt has said before the same and that he has a rule he’s always followed to never get involved with a fan of any age. And Tom himself recently helped take down a pedo ring if I remember right

 

I remember back in 2008, when AAA were playing, there were some creepy AF pics that were taken with Tom and Warped Tour participants.

 

No one would surprise me anymore. No one. Blink changed my life and defined a huge part of my growth into who I am today, but I think it’s healthy to recognize that it literally could be anyone. Building up someone in your mind to be pure or good leads to all sorts of “but he seemed so nice” or “he’s such a good dude” defenses that pop up whenever allegations about beloved people come out, whether they’re a celebrity or part of their local community, whoever it is. However nice someone seems, however much you personally love their work, there are huge aspects of their lives we know nothing about.

 

Hell, in his book, Travis laughs off his dad sexually harassing sex workers.

 

I've stopped being surprised and more just disappointed and disgusted the more allegations come out, but anything with Mark would really surprise me. I hope to god there isn't anything.

 

If something about Mark ever came out I'd literally cancel music for myself cause I wouldn't put it past anybody at that point.

 

Men should listen to more music/consume more art made by people who aren’t men.

 

This is definitely true, and something I need to make more of an effort to do myself. Same with film. Anytime I list my favorite filmmakers, they're all men.

 

As is largely the case for plenty of people. Male artists get the amplification and backing that women or non-binary artists don’t. But it’s worth the effort. I mean, I love a Scorsese flick as much as anything in the world, but finding female filmmakers An day exploring their bodies of work is super worthwhile and introduces you to talents and perspectives that are just as good as any of your favorite artists, and who don’t get the same acclaim or buzz. Sofia Coppola is a genius, Kelly Reichardt is recent-ish favorite director of mine now, I see anything the Wachowskis do, Ava DuVernay is magnificent, Julia Ducournau’s debut was electrifying, Maren Ade made one of the best films of last year, Anna Biller has one of the most unique and stylized visions I’ve ever seen, there are so many amazing non-male artists. Julien Baker, Against Me, Beyoncé, Jenny Owens Young, so many incredible non-male musicians doing exciting, super well crafted stuff.

Same for white guys consuming art made by white guys. Try harder, reach further, it only betters you.

 

Yes. Especially since the best albums that have come out this past year have been by female artists. Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, St Vincent, Camp Cope, Lorde, SZA, Haim, The xx, Wolf Alice, Amy Shark, Waxahatchee, the list goes on and on.

 

Totally agree. I'd possibly go as far as to say the majority of my favourite artists are female. Expanding horizons can only be a good thing.

Mark and Travis seem to always travel on tour with their families so it would surprise me if something like that came out but unfortunately you never really know.
