Why does it have to be neat and clean? Do you go around publicly sharing and apologizing for your past mistakes prior to someone calling you out on them? I’m not saying anything he did is right, but I can’t help but see past the hypocrisy of such a small minded, vacuum statement like this. Should he have tried to apologize to his victims way before? Hell ya. But he didn’t and he’s taking ownership of it now that it has become a public matter. And I can’t help but feel No that he has been alluding to a lot of this stuff for the last year or so now. Before they played Sealed to Me the first time he made comments such as how he used to be not so good a person and being apologetic and thankful for the impetus his wife has been.

 

I was thinking the same thing. The poor girl said she gets triggered and has a panic attack whenever she hears Brand New's music. I'd be afraid what would happen to her if she heard his voice or he reached out to her in any way.

Also if he specifically mentioned Nicole in the statement, he'd be leaving out a lot of others by the sounds. Which is awful. But I don't think any of us could have reasonably expected his statement to list all the people he's hurt. I hope he reaches out to them privately, if they are willing/comfortable to hear what he has to say. And who could blame them if they're not?

 

Sounds like some of you just want to move on and support BN and act like it’s no big deal.

i guess my biggest question is what do people want? aside from the age situation not being addressed, what could he say or do to make you accept this?

In all honesty, I want to know what people are looking for when these statements are released.

What makes a "good" statement?

It doesn't appear Jesse is making himself out to be a victim entirely, instead owning up to his faults.

I truly wish he addressed the specific details involved however.

 

A lot of what some of you are expecting are something only the victim is required to have.

 

I just want him to reach out to the victim. That’s the biggest thing to me honestly.

honestly nah ive just soften my stance on things like this since the AP days due to real life experiences ive gone through in the last two years. being a heroin addict and getting clean and seeing so many people forgive and accept me made me start to forgive and accept others more than i used to. thats what it is for me .

 

There's also literally no way for it not to feel self-serving vs actually trying to make it right. She's been abused psychologically by this guy; that would complicate any sort of reaching out even more, especially 15 years after it started.

This. People feel so entitled to be part of the process. You don’t have to support them. But he should be dealing with the specifics with the people involved. Not further dragging them through a public hell.

 

I hate the fucking voyeurism of a public statement. As if anyone in the world should be judging a statement "good" or "bad" but the ones abused.

 

Why does everyone care about Jesse getting help and moving forward with his life? He caused pain, he abused, his victim is still hurting and has had her life derailed. You can't just go back to liking a band and ignoring the victim because the statement checked off what was needed to make it "good."

 

Sooo kevin devine probably knew about this and knew he got help... are people going to throw him under the bus now?

 

I don’t either. I think we are all just trying to process this.

 

We care about past victims and potential future victims.

 

I have mixed feelings on it. On the one hand I want the victim to heal, but on the other hand there's certain people in my life that have done me wrong that I never want to hear from again- not even an apology

 

Can we please end humanity now?

 

Professional help is important. If he had an illness that needed to be cured he worked hard at trying to make it better. Idk if he’s cured but he’s trying and that matters to me, I believe people rehabilitated.
