yeah, and he was called out about the language by women on the post. the way he approached this was pretty shitty

but at the very least something came out of this.

    all we have is time

These quotes have new meaning to them:

“What’s funny is [that] I’m 37, and when you start playing music, night after night, from decades ago, you start to reflect on who you were when you were younger and the things you wrote music about. A lot of what we write music about is the uncertainty of being young, and trying to figure out who you are in the world, and what it’s going to be like when you grow older, and who it is you’re going to find, right? That’s what all of these songs are about—that’s what this song is about. It’s really hard when you’re young and you’re like, ‘This is never gonna work; I’m never gonna figure this out.’ And then one day you just do. And for me, I did when I got married. My wife helped me through everything. So now, when I play these songs—and she’s six months pregnant, by the way—all I think about is, ‘I’m so glad I don’t have to feel this way anymore.’ It’s a really great feeling. I never have to worry about finding someone to date ever again in my entire life. So here is to all of you finding that person in your life, and never having to worry about your life being an analogy for dying in a shipwreck, like this song is.”

It's definitely great for a visceral post and to see someone willing to back away from the band when they clearly love them, but selling that drumhead and giving the proceeds to a relevant charity would be such a better move than literally throwing it in the trash.

who would buy them? i mean i guess there are the bigots that still want to blame the victim but do you really want to sell to them?

To everyone waiting for a statement..

There is more to this. More statements have been made to media and not released yet. They're going to wait for the other shoe to drop before they figure out how to proceed. A particular outlet has been hitting up everyone remotely involved for a piece saying that they have statements from more girls

i have to echo the observation of smugness here being problematic. i know it will never happen, but i just wish for once people on social media could set aside the jokes, taunting, laughing, and smugness. "ohhh i knew." if you're gonna be happy, it shouldn't be because you get your kicks out of watching people be brought down. feel solace for the victims who know it wasn't just just them who experienced this and can now feel like an outlet is available to come forward.

Random tangent but if this was well known and members of TBS knew, why did he and John become friends again? Seems the last thing John would want.

as bad as that sounds, society wasn't always as woke as we are today, for lack of a better term. or maybe he just didn't know the extent.

I wouldn't have any problem with taking money they might spend supporting the band now and putting it toward something positive, no. We know that there will always be awful people who want whatever they can get their hands on, so this kind of stuff still has value even if it shouldn't. It's kind of like Kevin Smith giving all his Miramax proceeds to charity from now on. The films are tainted but that doesn't mean people won't buy them, and the best thing you can do is funnel that where it can do some good.

It's a very weird smugness considering the dude that started this off works for Fallout Boy which has weird allegations of their own. Like "oh people are paying attention to sexual assault let me be vague and hope the victim chimes in and then we can all laugh and make jokes about how we all knew but did nothing to help." It's a weird thing, even if it gets out important news.

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Yeah I guess I'm aware it's quite selfish to think that, sorry. Absolutely the victim should come first. I just don't know what's going through my head. I also don't know if a statement would be for the victim's sake at this point. Can't speak as someone that's never gone through this type of thing but I can't imagine an apology would help at this point. It'll come out as 'sorry I got caught' given that it wasn't resolved before it had implications on his career.

  14. Not sure if I’d call or smugness or anger. He worked with them, toured with them, and was in a band with Derrick. I found the first post a little offputting too until I thought about that.

also after some women posted comments about how troubling some of the language he used was, he apologized for stating it that way and seemed to understand what was wrong. he listened to women, like we should be in these situations

Not that it’s the point, but the first post very much felt performative and like it was meant to make women feel bad for not saying something sooner, which I don’t like

Again, none of that is the point and what Jesse did is fucking awful

Edit: also yeah what Casey said above

Maybe smugness is wrong it was just kind of weird/odd I don't know not all that sincere maybe like he wanted to "get" Jesse more than help the victim. Maybe that's unfair from me, that the post turned into jokes I guess was annoying to me.

I guess I’m not seeing what there is to be conflicted about. Up until yesterday, I loved Brand New and never really realized that Jesse Lacey was a creep. Now that he’s outed he’ll get the same treatment I️ would give anyone else in that situation.

It seems cut and dry to me. He won’t get anymore of my money.

Yeah, I was glad to see that. He also clarified that he meant the, "Now is not the time to stay silent," thing about himself and not about the women he was referring to. Definitely poorly worded but I'm glad he spoke up about that distinction.
