I'm not condoning what happened, I'm just looking for solutions to some maybe big issues/gateways to this behavior.

 

It'll be a while before I can listen to their music again. They'll never get another cent from me though.

A lot of us always had a weird feeling about the lyrics to "me vs Maradonna", or the lines about daughters not being careful in "You Won't Know" or the line about "when I disappear I am up to no good" in "Luca..."

These uneasy vaguebook lines that we've always written off as satire, or some metaphor we didn't understand... they were actually Freudian confessions for what he's done. Catholic guilt as someone else called it.

The most unsettling thin about all this is, that girl almost definitely isn't the only girl Jesse has harassed! She's the only one that had the courage to come forward so clearly, and bless her for having the strength to address something that internally traumatized her. But if he had the capacity to manipulate one 15 year old... what stopped him from doing it to multiple children who looked up to him???

 

How do your feelings about his transgressions invalidate anything I said? Are you just looking to get a rise out of someone?

 

Well i mean, there’s probably a lot going into it. So many conversations being had behind the scenes, both personally and legally. The decision whether or not to cancel dates, if the band is even going to move forward, etc. They are probably going over logistics as well. I’m sure we will hear something today, if not by the end of the weekend.

I️ think they’re just making the point that cheating does equate to shitty behavior, but it doesn’t equate to being a sexual predator. It’s irrelevant in a sense. There’s no correlation between those two behaviors. It means nothing when we should be focused on a girl who was 15 when approached by him.

uh well honestly when people bring up stuff like "he slept with someone one time" or "he kicked the guy from cartel out of his own dressing room" or whatever when the conversation is about soliciting naked pictures from a minor...it makes me think they don't actually understand what the fucked up part is

I was answering a fucking question. Are you truly instigating that I don’t know what’s fucked up about soliciting naked pictures from kids?
Are you actually going to be this intellectually dishonest?

 

I thought I would be able to formulate some more proper thoughts on this in the morning, but it's still incredibly shitty I don't know to move forward. Heartbroken somebody I admired could do such awful things, heartbroken that this is a common thing for women and scared with the realiziation I can't say I know what it is like to go through this kind of trauma that's all too nornal in a space that's designed to benefit me. I know this isn't the first time. I know it won't be the last. Reconciling this news with it being my favourite band is really just teaching me that it doesn't matter. The only good thing that can come of this has nothing to do with my past perceptions of this band, but everything to do with how I react to this sort of thing in the future, hold people accountable to their shitty, predatory actions and stand with people who are coming forward when they feel safe and heard. Heartbroken she had to deal with this for so long silently. I don't know what to say, I can't offer some great and wise advice but I am listening. I believe this is a problem and I don't want to support abusers like this. Fuck.
