Possibly - I just see Kevin leaving right away and the rest of the band eventually following in his footsteps. I guess the timeline doesn’t really matter. At this point, I think we’re all just waiting for a statement from the band (or Jesse)

Presumption of innocence by consequence is the presumption that the victim is lying, which is exactly the sort of attitude that has led to abusers doing what they want over the years and the lives of victims utterly destroyed.

I talk about it in the Deja in the News post, but YFW is an album I've disassociated from the band as I've always believed it to be teenage angst that they've grown out of. I absolutely hate YFW and haven't come back to it in years, but here's my interpretation of Deja:

Basically, I always thought, and still do think, that Deja is about taking popular song ideas and turning them inside out to show the darker sides. Everyone talks about sex, love, and being famous, but not many talk about the consequences that can follow after (without romanticizing it like heart break songs, etc.)

 

Can we talk about the fact that this guy deleted his posts and made his accounts private after Andy Hurley got outed? Makes me mad considering he was boasting about the fact that things need to be out there to make the scene a better place but he'll cover his tracks when shit hits the fan..

 

Pretty sure he made his accounts private because he was getting threats from fans.

 

I mean for literal years I've discussed with people how icky Me Vs Maradona Vs Elvis made me feel and a lot would be like "oh that's just you misinterpreting the lyrics, it's way deeper than that" and now it's just like welp

 

If that's the case then my mistake for getting angry, it just looked that way cause I saw people @'ing him with the same question on twitter and just getting ignored earlier yesterday.

Ugh that makes me so sick. I just can’t imagine being the kind of person that would choose my fandom for a band over believing someone who was victimized and abused.

Maybe that makes me sound self righteous? I don’t know. I’m just super grateful how well for the most part the community here has handled this.

 

Brand New was always the band I turned to when I was in pain. For the entire day today I've carried this news with me and haven't been able to function properly. Knowing that he used his position of power to sexually harass a minor is just disgusting and ruins something pure, tarnishes my safety net - music. Fuck.

In time, I will separate my emotions from the band. Right now it's so raw and I'm heartbroken. How could he do this? I'm just a naive 21 year old and I did believe he was great but he's just as bad as the 22 year old man who sexually harassed me when I was 16. I'm sorry for talking about myself so much right now but I'm just not coping. Today has been absolutely terrible

You're allowed to talk about yourself, don't be sorry for that. These sorts of allegations can get to us and we don't even realise it half the time.

It's 12:40am in Australia and I don't to sleep cos I'm scared of the news I'll wake up to in regards to this. But hey there's nothing else we can do but keep on keeping on

 

I was going to go out with friends tonight but I just kinda lost all motivation to do so. Not in a self destructive way, but I just really need the time to myself, so I canceled. Might do some cleaning or something.
