Dude, my Brand New tattoo is my most recognizable and prominently placed tattoo.. I'm feeling all sorts of shame and embarrassment that I have idolized a band fronted by, essentially, a pedo most my adult life.

 

This Sad Messiah guy was the last remaining remnants of that time and had not posted for many weeks now months even comes back and says this? Seriously how can that be the best you can come up with. Sad indeed. Wow no words. Mindboggling.

 

I wonder if Jesse would bring this up without naming it at one of his encore speeches at a show?

 

Ugh, I decided to catch up on what’s been going on with this band for the first time in a few weeks, and this is the first thing I see.

Like a lot of you BN has been one of the biggest influences on my life, even beyond music, but I have no problem letting them go. Although I can’t say that I expected this, I’m not really surprised.(Ban all men, etc.) Good for her for speaking out.

I'd be lying if I said this wasn't my AOTY. It affected me more than anything else.

It's going to be challenging figuring out where I stand on if I'll be able to listen to them. If any other artist did this, I'd fucking hate them forever. So I'd be hypocritical to hold them to a different standard. They made 4 of my favorite albums ever but I can't pretend none of this happened. I'm not going to listen to them for now and I'll reflect on this.

I did see something about that and it made me wonder as well so you're not the only one there. I mean this is a lot to take in. And frankly I don't know what to think. This is the first one since the Weinstein gate that hits REALLY close to home for me. And I've been bothered by all the other ones just as much but this is some next level type of shit that I wasn't prepared for.

It’s so sick like I’ve recently gotten students of mine into this band... like what do I say now, oh yea that band I got you into, has a lead singer that’s a sexual predator, what if they tell their parents they got into them bc of me and they look up the band and see this shit. How does that reflect my character? Fuck

 

Said it was when she was 15, 15 years ago, making her currently 29-30ish. Which would put the incident in 2002.

 

Yeah man, this got a hard scoff and my head is down. I have never felt so disappointed in my life. And that's saying something if you knew my life.

 

It was one of the most important albums of my last five years but oh fucking well. Shoot, one of the most important bands of my life, but it means jack shit when even just ONE person’s life is forever tarnished by a member’s behavior. Have no desire to share sentiments with or relate to someone that behaves this way.

Not sure if this is going to make sense but giving it a try. Their persona never bothered me before. Make music and release albums as you see fit. Don’t do interviews or keep your fans updated. You don’t owe me anything. Whatever. Something about it reallly grosses me out now, at least from his perspective — so phony and self-righteous. Like you wanted your privacy, or this air of mystery — no idea — but whatever the reason seems kind of absurd knowing he was treating women this way and damaging their lives.

 

Nah see that's the thing I don't want to be ashamed for listening or liking something. Too soon right now but I've got to find a way to reconcile this with myself somehow. Separate the art from the artist. I can't just turn on a dime on a band that has meant so much to me over the years and still very much does now.

A statement or something eventually from the band to acknowledge the situation would really go a long way with me. I have always respected them tremendously as artists and now it's gut check time for him to step up to the plate and address this head on as a human being. Batter Up.
