Not gonna lie to you guys, the X is pretty snazzy.

a burst and I'm awake now Supporter

First impressions of the X (coming from a 7 Plus) after a day of use:

    - We didn't start off on the right foot, setup was even more buggy than usual and seems to get worse every year despite Apple taking steps to make it easier. Managed to get my iCloud Music Library to work after a hard reset and leaving it 'load' for about 2 hours.

    - Initially I wasn't happy at all with the screen, size or lack of a home button, but this was exacerbated by setup difficulty.

    - After a day of use I'm growing accustomed to all of the above, but I still think the screen seems a bit 'soft' (fuzzy) to me compared to the super-crisp LCD. I have severe myopia and hold the phone about an inch from my face so it's really noticeable to me and makes me feel like I have something wrong with my eyes/glasses. I tried true tone for a while and didn't mind it but it did make my wallpapers look like shit (real important, I know) so I've ditched it for now. If anything, it just highlights how incredible the screen/engineering was on the 7 Plus which we all probably took for granted. However, blacks do look absolutely amazing.

    - The screen size is actually less of an issue than I expected but I haven't used YouTube yet or tried to view a spreadsheet.

    - Battery life also better than I expected, on par with my 7 Plus at the moment and probably losing less on standby, though I suspect my Plus had a drain issue.

    - FaceID hasn't worked too well for me - won't work at all if I don't have my (thick) glasses on, and the inability to unlock my phone with my face when it's flat on my desk is a bit annoying. Hopefully the former improves over time but either way it's not a deal breaker as I also had issues with TouchID.

    - The build of the phone is absolutely phenomenal and it absolutely feels like a premium device, I love holding/fondling it.

    - Most of the apps I use frequently are optimised for the X but Outlook Mail is not and it bums me out as it's tiny and looks terrible, and I've had to switch to Spark Mail because I simply can't stand it but the smart notifications are nowhere near as good as they are on Outlook Mail. Please, Microsoft, get your shit together!!

    - The Apple Folio case is TERRIBLE - I thought it'd sit tighter on the glass of the phone similar to a Smart Cover but it's all floppy and horrible. Do not buy it. I am only using as a stop gap until my Peel case arrives in the mail.

    - I keep forgetting to try out the Animoji function.

    - Overall, I'm pretty happy so far. Much happier than I was last night. It's taking a period of adjustment but this is a huge leap in the context of how we use the iPhone and the initial frustration is about on par or slightly less than if I'd switched to Android. I'm still not 100% sold on the OLED screen, however - a bit too soft and saturated, and the blacks, while amazing, aren't enough to compensate what I feel I'm losing in text sharpness etc. Maybe my eyes are just completely stuffed, though.

I actually quite like my Folio case, but I definitely see where it could hinder some ease of functionality, especially with the camera.

Here I was thinking “yeah, this iPad I have will be good enough for a few years”...WRONG.

I need/want a new iPad but would want to hold out for that. But I could see that being my Christmas present this year because I’ve basically been saying all year that I want a new one. The one I’m using now is on year 5.

  19. When Watch surpassed iPod
But what most catches the eye is the transition from iPod to Watch. Watch entered nearly at the same time as iPod bowed out. Its contribution to sales seems to mirror the iPod as well. The interesting question then becomes if the Watch will eventually match and indeed exceed the revenues from iPod.

I’d say the better question is _when_ Watch will overtake iPod. From a revenue point of view, I believe next year’s fourth quarter will see the Watch generating higher revenues than the highest quarter for the iPod.

    "flop"

Went in for a third interview at an Apple store today. Got there early enough to check out the X and it felt wonderful in hand. I'm blaming @Jason Tate if I end up buying one.

Sometimes I consider trying other podcast apps but then I think of how terrible it would be to not have Smart Speed in Overcast and I stop myself. That's easily my favorite feature of any app on my phone.

Don't recreate the scene, or reinvent the meanings Supporter

Are there any good fixes for the Apple TV when it just shuts off in the middle of a program and starts re-booting constantly? It doesn't really matter what app I'm using. I have a good internet connection and speed. Not sure what's left to do but try a factory re-set, but would like to avoid that if possible.
