Wildlife is a really great record but hard to listen to because of how long it is and how much it takes out of you

 

The more I dig up those repressed memories the more I think that part of YT is why I hate ukes and want to smash one every time I hear it. That and NeverShoutNever.

 

i can still recite all the words of trouble from memory

that song is impressive how i might remember it better than almost any other song from that time or earlier

 

IT’S SO DAMN CATCHY.

I don’t know what’s more asinine, saying Touche has whiny lyrics or coming into a discussion about how certain bands have gotten better over the last 6 years and saying a band has whiny lyrics because you haven’t listened to anything more recent than 6 years ago

 

i really like wildlife too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ those little interlude songs (a letter, a poem, etc.) still hit hard
i also still enjoy king park ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ while i understand how some people can be turned off by its overplay, i still find it very powerful to this day. did bring in a lot of "fans" who only knew that song, or at least the line at the end though.

king park is the only la dispute song i actually remember. and i couldn't even remember it's name until it was brought up. i just kept thinking that "kill myself" song by la dispute

 

Have they played any other new songs live or is it just this one?

 

not sure what I walked into, but Wildlife is good ("I See Everything" in particular) and Rooms of the House is even better

anyways, this song is good and bet the album will be as well. lol at someone saying "now they just sound like all the other shoegaze bands i've heard" on Youtube though

 

Wildlife is a v good album even if I don’t love the vocals much anymore, it’s still great song writing and story telling. King Park is a heavy hitting song, by no means bad.

 

They've been playing just this one live for over a year now.

Wildlife is better at storytelling, but ROTH has some good stories too, but I personally have to read along to the lyrics to really get it. I don't for wildlife.

 

KP is basically everything i don't like about the band, over dramatic whining to the max

 

I don’t get this. How is a song about real gang violence in a community “whining”? Are you talking about the vocal delivery itself? I totally get not liking the vocal delivery, I’m with you there at this point. But the actual content of the song?

 

vocal delivery whining, yes. but regardless on topic the song itself just doesn't work for me, the end part that everyone loves just takes me out of it every time

 

That's interesting. I think that part has been over sensationalized due to playing it every show and it being the part people go crazy for, but listening to that when the record came out was truly chill inducing. I still get chills listening to it today.

 

new song is awesome

it's seems we might get a more straight forward record with a "sunnier" approach - and I love when bands do that, special bands that can pull it off with that restrain and technical elegance that comes from experience

also, a "happy" record can come with a huge emotional depth - the word "ecstatic" comes to mind

also, Kyle sounds really comfortable with his performance in this - I think his style change on KY was risky, specially because of his unique singing, but it payed off and continues to do so

 

i remember seeing those lyrics at the end EVERYWHERE on tumblr at one point

 

i remember the first time i heard stay happy there and was stunned in how forceful it was, his delivery totally changed for that one. loved that song immediately

 

Okay I can see better where you’re coming from now. I personally think it does a great job of displaying how much regret and dread the shooter is feeling in the moment. Super haunting moment to me. I would never say it’s a moment I love though, it’s awful. It bring awful emotions with it, but I guess if the song works for you that’s kind of the point they were getting at.

And yeah, I would never scream those words back at show like it’s some sort of anthem. It’s terrible.

 

I agree with all of this but especially the bold part. That was my initial impression - Kyle sounds much more comfortable.

 

*an album tackling mental illness, death, cancer, gang violence, loss of faith, breakdown of relationships all packaged in a thematic and ambitious way*

There is already a band by this name, and they have a shirt with the Hamburglar from McDonalds on it. I'm sure of it.
