My old friends are obsessed with Chon and I think they're pretty unlistenable

 

I'll be honest, I thought they were a joke band. Are they? I'm only interested since they're on the tour with B&C, Circa, and Thrice, which I'll probably end up going to but probably won't make it in time for Chon anyway.

Yeah that's only band I'm not sure about on that bill. I'm lucky the tour is going to Montreal so no need to go to Chicago for this one! Speaking of Montreal at the same venue that I will be seeing that tour, I will be seeing Silversun Pickups this weekend with openers Minus The Bear. Love going to Montreal for gigs. Much more than Toronto.

Portugal The Man announced they will be playing there too but haven't decided on that one yet. Anyone hear their new album? I still haven't gotten around to it.

 

Nice, that's a good lineup. What did you think of MtB's album from this year? Last time I saw Silversun was I think a few years ago opening for Muse.

 

I really like it. It dives deeper into the poppier part of their sound in a relatively similar way to what they were exploring on Evil Friends. Plus they put on a great live show. Have they announced support for that tour?

 

Absolutely see them live whether or not you like the new album (it's my 3rd favorite of theirs)

I haven't heard their new one actually Voids I think it's called right? I'd say I'm more of a SSPU fan than a MTB so glad they are the ones headlining. I've only seen them once before in Ottawa around the time Swoon came out headlining set with openers An Horse and Cage The Elephant. Fun fact my girlfriend and I were both at that same show alone. It was way before we met but yeah pretty funny. Now we don't have to go to shows alone anymore because we like (mostly) the same music.

 

No I don't think yet I will look it up I'm also curious to know and thanks I'm definitely going to check it out. It's a short one so easier to get through in one sitting.

 

@KidLightning is the Chicago date on the Thrice/Circa tour at the Aragon?

I've only seen Thrice once with Alkaline Trio, Gaslight Anthem and Rise Against in 08 or 09. Pretty sweet lineup that was.

And Circa I caught like the last song of their set when I went to the Toronto Riotfest in 2014. Really looking forward to seeing a full set especially since I dig their new record so much.

 

Speaking of joke bands...

 

Yeah, Voids. I haven't listened in a while, but will have to re-listen soon.

And the night I met my wife we got to talking about music and realized we had been at a bunch of the same shows since she had moved to Chicago a few years before.

I think I'm going to listen to this now.

 

whats everyones favorite albums of the year so far?

 

It is! So is the Portugal. The Man show in February. I went to that same Thrice tour in Chicago and saw them with Circa two nights in a row the spring before that. First and only time I've gone to see a band on back to back nights, although I have seen FOB twice in the same day.
