That particular one was released recently for $500. Crazy pricetag, but you know people went for it.

Civil War was a standard event. Marvel just loves tie-ins and having people fight for no reason. I hadn't read any of that stuff outside of the main event.

I'd be curious to see what the boxset for the 2015 series looks like/goes for.

    beautiful and chequered, the end

I haven't bought monthly comics in a couple of years now, so I wasn't aware it was 2.99$, in my head they were charging 3.99$ (which marvel is also VERY guilty of) but in my opinion even 2.99$ is insane for a 22 page comic. My complaint here should probably be more directed at modern comic book story telling than at DC but the amount of content delivered in a 22 page comic now infuriates me. The stories are so decompressed that nothing is written for the issue anymore. A modern day comic book writer (with an exception of a few) doesn't sit and think "how do I write a good single issue with a beginning, middle and end" they sit down and pace an entire arc then split it up. With this in mind I just can't justify spending 4/5$ (after tax, plus im in canada where all comics are now more expensive) to get a small sliver of the story.

I put all the same criticism towards all other publishers, however with Marvel I feel I can follow along with a title by just buying trades. From my experience a monthly arc ends, then a month later the trade comes out. With DC however it takes them forever after a monthly arc ends before they bother releasing the trade leading me to wanna just wait for the entire series to finish before I pick up the trades instead of following it as they come out. Maybe I just follow the wrong DC books where the trade schedules are insane.

Then we got DC's trade prices, which is another story in it self. Geoff John's Flash omnibus was 120$ for 11 issues of content. Thats $10 + PER issue they were charging, Disgusting.

Im sorry for all the negativity here btw. I promise I'll go back to only talking about things I love. I also don't want it to seem like I judge anyone who buys monthly comics. I have around 15 long boxes of monthly issues and absolutely understand the enjoyment that comes out of following them. I just can't help but feel the comic industry has evolved horribly with the times and instead of trying out new ways to deliver stories they have instead just tried to milk as much possible from their dying fan base of monthly readers while ignoring other opportunities.

You make absolutely valid points so no reason to apologize, I just wanted some clarification.

DC started doing the $2.99 (AGAIN) actually with Rebirth, but alot of their smaller books were always priced that way.

You are absolutely correct about DC's trades taking forever, it seems like people completely forget about everything before the trade hits haha.

That is pretty insane about the Flash omnibus, I know it's been hard to find lately but didn't think it was THAT bad.
Agreed also about the 22 page comic criticism. Every issue always has to have some crazy massive cliffhanger/turn too which is kinda weird.

Tell me about it. I waited basically a year to read the 2nd volume of Gotham Academy and by the time I got around to reading it I completely forgot Damien had joined the cast ahaha.

Had no idea he was doing stuff with Marvel now, love Nguyen so so so much! Definitely my favorite artist in the medium.

Speaking of though, is Skottie Young still around at Marvel? I know he's working on I Hate Fairyland but i haven't kept up lately.

I read the first issue and enjoyed it. Artwork is by Nicola Scott so it's definitely a gorgeous book!

Awesome! I'll have to get to it soon then.

Nice. Would love to hear your thoughts once you read it too. I'm undecided if I'll do a full review on my site or just send them feedback through their form.

  16. Finished the first volume of Invincible the other night--superb! Now being aware of the history of teen superhero origins and their respective growths over the years (Spider-Man as the standout for me), this book feels similar in the its groundedness, tone, and humor. I don't think it was trying to reinvent the wheel but just make a really kickass one instead.

I enjoyed the first arc. The art is beautiful. And I am a sucker for anything written by Greg Rucka.

Anyone grabbing non-FCBD stuff via sales tomorrow? This is what my local store is doing:
That 40% off all other trades looks like a good chance to pick up a couple non-Marvel or DC titles.

Any NJ heads in here know of any comic shops doing any good sales? Heading to Wildpig at some point in Kenilworth tomorrow. Would love to check some other places out?

What did everyone pick up for FCBD? Here's my list:

FCBD Titles: Captain America, Civil War II, We Can Never Go Home, Tick, One-Punch Man, March, and Archie

Additional free titles: Black Panther #1 (Hudlin), The Batman Adventures #1, Doctor Strange The Oath #1, New 52 Superboy #3

Purchased: Final Crisis, Kingdom Come, and Wytches all for 40% off.

    Overall, not a bad day!

I felt really bad not buying anything today, but I really expected the last issue of batman / tmnt to be out. Then my toddler was wriggling out of my arms the whole time. I was super glad that a guy dressed as spidey was outside though, my son loved him and he was very funny.

I picked up Archie per tims recommendation, bobs burgers, simpsons, captain America and civil war 2 out of the free ones.

Nice! Quite a few people didn't buy anything at the store I was at either. There was a family behind me with 5 kids who all couldn't stand still haha so it's understandable.
