I figured he deleted it when it wasn't loading.

Dude continues to be such a fucko who always has to chime in whenever these situations arise. Seriously the worst person.

  5. Want to quote it with "we need less rape" so badly but really don't have time to deal with that shit today.

Better Off replied saying "thanks and same to you" I swear to fucking god that scene is trash. All of it.

I'm almost glad that I'm so far behind on music. Every band that's had a scandal recently I've never heard of before.

    Some basics:
-Kayla Phillips is an accomplished musician and entrepreneur most famous for her work in hardcore band Bleed the Pigs.
-David Hobbs was in the band with her, he is now touring with Better Off
-Better Off are apparently disgusting rape apologists and would rather end their whole band than drop a dude
    -JJR continues to be scum

JJR chiming in might honestly be peak absurdity. Like I can't comprehend how far up your own ass you have to be.

I don't want to detract from the conversation at hand, and I'm also not intending to tone police - anyone feeling and expressing rage is absolutely justified in doing so - but I'm curious how we want that to translate to a new site given we've expressed a desire to be inclusive, positive, not dismissive - how does that translate to topics like this that will invariably attract trolls, people who post the same old arguments about the risk of accusations (maybe because they truly don't know better) - I know I have a tendency to be short and more divisive than positive with these kinds of topics - what do we want that to look like? Is it tone policing to say we want to uphold civility in situations like this where people are rightly tired of being civil? I'm not sure where I stand.

Hasn't the Better Off lead singer been kinda cursed with getting touring members anyways?

I think there's a huge difference between under-privileged people voicing their frustrations than the kind of people that come in to try and tone police / use those same old arguments, personally.

I def agree, but I don't think that's a nuance these sorts of posters will pick up on. So in theory all they see is "this group of like minded regulars is being rude to this group of people just for expressing their opinion!!" which is ofc ridiculous but the result is the same - they're gonna probably stick to their guns right? Maybe we can create a sort of... Beginner's guide to what social justice means to us so there's a centralized place we can point to it rather than repeating over and over why tone policing is wrong, why women are angry about how they're treated in this scene, why it's okay to side with the victim and not the accused, etc? Basically to deflect all of those really basic questions about socjus so we're less likely to be snarky when we answer the same questions diplomatically over and over again?

that's not a bad idea, honestly. i try to remain as diplomatic as possible but there are definitely people who test me to the limit, haha.

  21. Something like that is not a bad idea at all. Maybe a "resource" thread in the politics forum that can have some links posted to things like that? Because I don't think it's productive at all to have the same arguments over and over again. I've basically given up even trying these days. I realized I was repeating myself so much it was killing my spirit.

You could also lump the code of conduct in that resource thread. Just kind of include a set of threads like that in one location so people can easily view them, reference them, and discuss them if need be.

I could help work on this with a group of fantastic people. There was actually a really good post I linked to a while back on AP from a woman on tumblr who addressed a few of these things, but I keep losing my bookmarks because I'm really bad at management. I will go through my posts just to find it.

Yeah exactly, like it's totally reasonable to be worn down but the people who ask these questions aren't the ones who will realize that it's reasonable, so having a place to point them to might deflect some of the circular, regular, same arguments that keep popping up and wearing us down further.

  25. Yeah, those CoC / moderation threads are next on my list I think to do.

One thought I had was that if there is a specific argument that takes place like if someone is in one of those threads and wants to discuss SJ or one specific argument about something, it's probably better handled in some kind of "debate" thread anyway and not in the news thread. I dunno exactly how to do that, but it could pull that conversation away from the news itself when it's not about the news, it's about a broader topic. Like if someone wants to debate microagressions or why guilty vs innocent is a legal term and not an internet one and all that, there's gotta be a better place than doing it in EVERY single news thread about the topic. And if it's pushed toward one thread that's had that debate 20x ... maybe people will read and realize "shit, maybe I shouldn't say the same shit again and again."
