its almost like matty is human and humans dont have perfect politics 100% of the time, unless you're pure like cwhit

jake we've talked about this there's no need to take every criticism like a personal attack

all my post said was based on his past history of comments i'd be wary of him making a political album, that's the extent of my comments there

i didnt get that from your post at all, maybe because it was buried under five layers of rhetorical sarcasm

Why be wary of Matty writing political songs? Has he done or said something I’m not aware of or is this a “he’s a pop songwriter he shouldn’t write political songs” kind of thing that I just didn’t catch

he's shown himself to be a little tone deaf with sensitive issues and i hope he's learned from his mistakes but at the same time i'd be worried that he'd unintentionally say something not great

I’m not saying I won’t like a political 1975 album, but I am saying the idea of it doesn’t excite me, personally.

That’s also fair it was in the marriage vows that no 1975 album shall come between us

there's nothing that turns me off from matty writing politically and think it'd be a net good. it would force him to assess himself and grow and also cause his fan base to assess themselves and grow.

i never said it wouldn't be good i'm just saying i'm not sure i necessarily want it and am worried about the execution

I've posted this before but I think it bares repeating re: Matty getting political on another record

I saw them in Chicago the Sunday after Trump's election and I'll never forget Matty taking time out of the set telling the crowd that we needed to "give Trump a chance" and that "of course" the opener of that tour said "fuck Donald Trump" onstage because "she's a minority."

I think he tries to put his heart in the right place most times with political/social issues but statements like that will always stick out to me as emblematic of his position of privilege. As a person of color in that crowd, only a few DAYS after the election, it felt like such a slap in the face to be told by him that my concerns were almost predictable or expected by nature of me being a minority

I love this band to death and don't think that our artistic figures need to be paragons of like "wokeness" or ideological purity but any sort of "political" record from them would likely rub me the wrong way

I mean matty is the kind of person who will make something interesting regardless, flaws and all. And the things you posted are either not political at all or so surface level political that they don't strike me as alarming in hearing he may be taking a political approach
