It still happens quite frequently for me. I look for it with some bands, albums, songs. The 1975 just aren't that band for me (and I'm okay with it).

What is the point of consuming art if it doesn't invoke an emotional response.

Also sadness isn't the only emotion.

But I want to be sad. It feels more important to me haha

There's a response just not a weighty one.

I actually hope the go down the post-rocky path a bit more. Again - I enjoy those instrumental-heavy tracks - but I know they can improve upon that.

I always feel like that last set of "bangs" falls flat on the recording. Way more effective live.

yeah i was pretty neutral and was much more enthralled with a lot of the other songs and then i saw it live and i was like damn can't believe ive been sleeping on this.

I feel so spoiled because I was madly in love with Lostmyhead on the record (would still say I am) but somehow that love has transcended to an even higher level after being exposed to the live version. I hope they never take it out of their setlist. It would be a cardinal sin to.

I love ballad. I still wish the record ended with ballad and they went post rock ape shit for 8 straight minutes after the programming at the end of the song ended

  16. Dear god please dont ever let this band go post rock ...

I mean obviously the third verse of Paris hits home harder for me than others but if you can't see the heavy emotions at play there...

I absolutely agree personally, but I think Paris is different in that it's less straightforwardly and universally sad and more dependent on the context the listener can apply to it, you know? But damn it's heavy song for sure

I guess I would hope it's more universal with how close to home that issue hits for me but with how bad things are in the entire country (I'm not sure what it's like in the U.K.) I think issues of addiction touch a lot more people than it used to, even if not directly

  23. She Lays Down is one of the most emotional songs of the decade. I ranted for ten minutes to a friend who doesn’t even like this band how it’s so fucking sad but sweet and loving. It’s important

  24. I mean it’s a profound display of empathy

The addiction side is more buried than the sad parts of the other songs which are more obviously about sad things, to me at least. There's hints throughout but it requires some attention to get that for most people. It's easy to think it's a cute lil song about a cute city. But that's part of why it's genius; in reality it's a very dark and depressing song hidden inside a very pretty, simple song. And that misdirection mirrors the story of the song. The layers, man.
