I think Trump's debate antics in large part succeeded due to the size of the field. Once the field shrunk there was that one debate where Rubio and Cruz beat him up, and then I think one more debate where Trump was a whole lot more subdued.

I don't think we get crazy Trump at debates anymore. He no longer needs to act out to get attention.

But it's just who he is - just like he can't "act presidential" because his personality and ego is a certain way that doesn't allow for a filter. Perhaps not crazy, but he's still going to the brash, rude, and commanding personality in a debate regardless of the number of people or who he's debating against, in my opinion.

Where the "poll" that shows Clinton down 2 points to Trump coming from? Is that reputable at all?

You may be right. I've never delved that deeply into those elections. And now that you mention it Reagan and Clinton were powerhouse candidates, I don't doubt that debates played a very minor role.

There's a book by one of my favorite authors called The Invisible Bridge that looks at Reagans rise. I should probably pick that up.

As someone who very early on said that Trump would win (shortly after polls showed him, Cruz, Carson, and Fiorina making up more than 50% of the vote) the GOP nomination, I also feel like there's no guarantee Clinton will cake-walk to the White House.

Don't underestimate how many white voters have hated having a black president.

They've said before that Trump would have to win states that Romney didn't including Florida and PA. It's highly improbable he takes one of those states let alone both.

If they hated him so much why didn't they vote him out in 2012?

I'm just afraid of how many people utterly despise the Clinton name, perhaps enough to jump over to Trump for one of the various bullshit reasons we keep hearing about -- he's a businessman not a politician, he's self funding his campaign, he "says it how it is" ... ridiculous.

People despise Trump more than Clinton tho. That hurts both of them, and it won't be able to swing the election either way most likely.

Still in on the conspiracy that they're partners in this, and their plan is working better than they ever thought.

There seems to be a base of voters that are genuinely inspired by Trump though. Scary, but still. I don't see that same excitement among most Clinton supporters.

I've heard that conspiracy theory, but I'm not sure how believable it is. What's the ultimate goal of that?

Is there really any chance that the number of people voting for Trump who would otherwise have voted for a non-Hillary democrat is greater than the number of people not voting for Trump/voting for Hillary who would have voted for another repub?

I dunno, I think it's possible. There are some people I would have considered more moderate that support Trump. It's kinda confusing actually.

For example, John Boehner said he would support Trump if need be but never Cruz.

There's rumours that Trump might pick Rick Scott as his VP. WELL THAT'S ONE WAY TO GET FL TO NOT VOTE FOR YOU.

You might be in a bubble of Bernie supporters, but she does have a huge amount of support. She did win most states, maybe not that exciting but definitely getting results. People against Trump should be coming out for her too.

I just dislike these vague generalizations about how things seem that mean X candidate won't win, there are tons of factors here and voter excitement is a big one on both sides.

I'm also worried that many Bernie supporters will refuse to vote for Hillary, even if that means ostensibly helping Trump (I'm a Bernie supporter, but I'm not one of those).

This is why Bernie not dropping out and continually antagonizing Hillary is helping Trump. Which is frustrating, because Bernie is "part of the democratic party" for the sole purpose of running his race

That doesn't bother me, she has more voters overall. I voted Bernie and I'll vote Hillary now, and I think most Bernie supporters feel the same. The Democratic states are just going to be too difficult to flip, some Bernie supporters can stay home with the #nevertrump people and there shouldn't be a huge swing

I need advice. I'm not one to dismiss anybody based on their political party, or someone that can't find at least something to agree with from all candidates. My personal beliefs range all over the political spectrum.
But I'm married. And politics has never been discussed or a part of our relationship at all. But the love of my life, the mother of my children, has recently started making her political feelings known. And it's 'Obama is the worst president ever' with no reasonable explanation why, Bernie sanders is a complete joke with horrible anti-american ideas without ever listening to him speak, and she voted for Donald trump in the primary.
For the sake of marital and family peace, do I even go there with her?
