I wish I still had some of these. Probably the best NE style I've had this year

Been slacking pretty hard on my brewing recently, but want to pick back up on it in the winter. Planning on brewing a stout based on cookies that my mother (and her mother before her) makes every holiday season. Then I'd like to dial in a good imperial stout base that I can split into small batches to secondary on a bunch of different adjuncts.

Should post your recipes man. Would love to look at them.

This is the plan for the cookie stout. Don't have anything in mind yet for the imperial base. May end up basically just doubling this recipe if I like how it comes out.

  7. What are some must hit breweries in Portland and the surrounding area. I'll be there for a week. I've already been to deschutes, rogue, ancestry, and brothers cascadia

    Breweries
    Cascade Brewing
    -
Best sours you will ever have, well unless you go to maybe Cantillon or the likes, well worth it.
Scout - brand new little brewery that really pushes the bounderies of what a beer can be (check out their beer list online)
Great Notion - a bit outside the city bounds, but a really cool spot if near there
Baerlic - east side of the river, walking distance from a few other local food & drink spots
Culmination - a bit out of the way, but really great spot.
Scout Brewing - Really small place, super new, great beer with a ton of cool experimental things

    Beer bars
    Loyal Leigon -
really fantastic tap list with a TON of taps
    Bailey's Taproom - A+ beer bar downtown
Beer Belly - Insane prices for amazing beer (I had a full pour of BCBS for $3 on Hoppy Hour)

    Sounds good.
I don't know anything about making beer, is this some sort of brewing software you use?

Gigantic Brewing. Every barrel aged beer my friends have brought back from Portland for us to drink has been some of the best barrel aged beers I've ever had.

That’s from a website called Brewers Friend. Not like in-depth software or anything, but it can run those simple calculations to figure out abv/og/srm, etc.

Looks pretty good. You could think about adding some victory malt or something similar to get a little more of a biscuit/nutty flavor that might help out with the cookie essence you’re going for. Also interested in how the PB2 works for you, I’ve never used it but have heard of it being the go to way for getting peanut butter flavor

    Random beer updates:

-Have had a bunch of solid IPAs from The Veil in Richmond recently. I got a bunch from a friend whom I traded with from out that way. Personal Space and one with guava whose name is escaping me right now were faves.
-Coffee Eugene cans from Revolution for daaaaaays. I stocked up with the max allotment from their beer release on Sunday so I am a happy man when it comes to beer.
-Had a Lagunitas IPA for the first time in a while at my weekly DnD session, and it was surprisingly good considering how much my palette has changed since I had my first one years ago. I felt very nostalgic and happy as a result considering my group failed our quest, but that's an aside for another time.

Any reason in particular you use that over beersmith? Cost related I presume?

Logsdon is about an hour east of Portland and is dope. De Garde is about an hour west of Portland and is dope. Belmont Station is in Portland and is dope. Keep an eye out for Ale Apothecary beers in bottles at bottle shops. They're doing some rad stuff.

  19. I got a couple Ale Apothecary bottles when I was there earlier in the year. They were expensive as hell but honestly pretty much worth it. They were a true treat.

A quick look. Any of the Stone Liberty Station ones would take precedence over other Stone or Arrogant stuff. It's fairly specific to the one location so not available freely.

I use both actually. I just like Brewer's Friend more to store recipes on since the UI is a little more friendly and it's easy to pull stuff up on mobile/work computer.

FWIW, there's an imperial stout we made last year that we ended up turning into a basil stout (was way better than anticipated, though we all agreed we felt bad putting basil in it after we tried the beer after fermentation. Sorry it's sideways. Right click -> open in new tab will turn it the correct way.

As for the second image, one of my friend's good friends is a brewer at Bell's brew pub and we all got drunk and I was like "yo, let me get that 30th anni recipe" and we all laughed and then two days later woke up to that picture in a text message.

Edit: I can post the chocolate mint stout that's our winter seasonal, too, if wanted.

Oh damn, these are awesome, dude. Thanks. Yeah, I'd definitely like to see that mint stout as well. Was actually thinking about doing that as one of the split batches of the stout I make.
