I will never understand how he fell to round five. His comparison is Lavonte David, a player who fell to round two because he was undersized, who promptly proved every critic wrong. So it's weird that everyone collectively went "oh no, this guy is too much like that one guy we completely underestimated before, we gotta pass."

Anyway, he's got David's contract and through his career as a starter, he's got David beat on touchdowns and passes defensed, tied for interceptions, a game or two behind in tackles, and the only main difference is David's 10 sacks versus Telvin's 5.5.

 

It was mostly because he failed a drug test. It's common to overcome one disadvantage like being undersized if you show a lot of awareness, technique, and leadership. But being only 210 lbs at the Combine AND potentially having problems curbing his marijuana usage, had him seen as "too risky".

We drafted him to be a sub package LB originally, and to be fair there was no indication whatsoever he would be useful against the run. He wasn't a run defender at FSU. It's honestly really surprising that he makes so many plays in the trenches and in the backfield. He's not gonna hold the point of attack, but you rarely see him get taken out of the play either - he's just super slippery and knows how to zip his skinny body through tiny gaps before the lineman can react.

 

I picked telvin smith in that mock in like the 5th round and then everyone picked him way earlier after that lol

I think Allen could be a Gabbert type. Falk I don't think will be Locker because I don't think they'll take a chance on him that high. Rudolph is far too accurate and consistent to be Ponder. Mayfield is 100 percent Dalton.
