I watched house of the devil just a couple of months ago to show my girlfriend and yet here I am as excited as ever for my yearly last-week-of-october viewing of it.

I watched It Follows tonight and really dug it. I’ve watched this and 1922 in the last two days after not watching a horror movie in several years. I don’t watch many movies as it is anyway.

I don’t think he got the hooker. I think he and her realized it was just going to happen eventually anyway and not to waste time anymore screwing randoms

simultaneously completely out of left field as the movie that followed TCM, and the only possible sequel that could exist for it

Agreed. It so batshit hilarious insanity from the start. Just about died laughing six dozen different times.

Not a bad way to interpret it. But if that were the case I don't think they'd just wanna be living a normal life like they seem to be at the end of the movie. More so just sitting and waiting for it to happen someplace secluded and maybe peaceful, as opposed to a neighborhood. Happy to hear of someone liking it though. I personally loved it and all the John Carpenter nods.

  16. This post is kind of all over the place, so bear with me. I never considered myself a fan of the horror genre, but I've been in the Halloween spirit and since September I've watched xx, Train to Busan, The Bad Batch, mother!, Raw, Happy Death Day, and It, and I really liked them all. All my life, the only films that have really terrified me were The Ring/Ringu, Ju-On, and The Babadook (and I guess Insidious? I had a weird experience with that one where I watched the second half first), so for a movie to really scare me, I think there has to be some supernatural element, which I think might be part of why I've been able to enjoy these films I've been seeing recently despite not being a huge fan of the genre (or maybe it's just that the primary aim for most of them wasn't to be scary). What I found interesting about them was that most of them were directed by women, or at the very least featured a female lead. This kind of goes along with my recent media consumption habits in general (including books and music), where I'm kind of just bored of narratives made by/centered on white males. I've been listening almost exclusively to female artists for at least the past month and I've been going into my favorite used book store and buying almost every work of fiction by an Asian American author I come across. Anyway, um... okay, let's backtrack. So, for all of October, AMC Theaters has been having this cool Tuesday promotion, so I've been using it as an excuse to go see some horror movies. This week, though, I wasn't really interested in The Snowman because of the reviews, so I decided to stay home and watch Raw instead. If there's nothing interesting next week (I haven't watched any Saw after the first three, so I might skip Jigsaw), I might just Netflix it instead again. I already have my eyes on It Follows, but I was wondering...

tl;dr What are some other recs for recent horror movies made by/centered on women/poc?

Watched Insidious 3, and Hocus Pocus last night.

Hocus Pocus is surprisingly smart. I used to be terrified of that movie. Though I don’t remember it being so funny.

Maybe they wanted to keep living the normal life? Then again maybe he did screw them and told Annie not to worry anymore since hooker(and the people that get hookers) have sex more often and thus it would be passed along much faster and further down the chain. Of course with that mentality it will eventually get them at some point, as it was doing.

....and this is one reason that movie was great.

    Hush
    Get Out
    The Babysitter
oh, and obviously Boo! A Madea Halloween :-)
