  1. Yeah, it is shockingly similar. It has pretty much the same interface and features as Melodyne, and looks practically identical. When I first saw it I was surprised there wasn't a lawsuit haha.

  2. i've never played around with melodyne, but it sounds like something that i should probably use, haha.

  3. An old band I was in demoed on of our songs with a guy that likes to use Melodyne a lot, but I don't think he knew how to use it properly because it sounded pretty bad IMO. Then again, a lot of things about that recording were pretty off. It did seem like pretty cool software though and I'd definitely be interested in messing with it sometime.

Isn't it pretty much the gold standard for pitch correction/vocal production?

  5. It's an amazing tool, but it's easy to overuse it and and up sounding like a robot. Much better used in moderation to tweak things here and there rather than try to make every note pitch perfect.

Don't get me wrong... I like the idea. But just looking over songs from my year I can see this kind of compilation causing a lot of people to not get involved

I just think participation will suffer if we venture too far from our comfort zone. And speaking for myself, I've had a real hard time even picking a song from 1985... nonetheless learning and recording it.

  8. I think an acoustic covers or a "summer songs" comp would get the most interest.

  9. Out of the ideas presented so far, I agree with Brad. I guess we can wait through the next week to see if anything else comes up, but otherwise those two and maybe Drive-Thru would make for a pretty solid poll.

Would be so down. My band plays acoustic electric with Cajon.

  12. Thanks! Yeah it's starting to come together. I have some ideas that I'm hoping I'll have the time to implement, including something so ridiculous it might turn out pretty cool haha.

Sorry to hear that you're under the weather. I was looking forward to hearing your take on "Perfect Situation."

Thanks for your review! My biggest concern is that it's not too different from how Logic 9 looks and works. Apple has a tendency to make drastic changes to interfaces and the way things work, and that's what I'm worried about most. I'm guessing it's not that bad or else you would have mentioned it.
Funny you said "I don't work for Apple" because I did for 5 years and when I read that, I instantly thought "how did he know?????" haha

  14. Haha good stuff. I just wanted to make it clear that I'm not here to shill software, I just really like it haha.

X is actually very similar to 9 as far as the interface and basic features. Probably 90% would be self-explanatory when upgrading, but there will definitely be a few times in the early going when you won't be able to find a feature and you'll have to look up the new name/location/keystroke/etc. Not too jarring of a change for sure.

I did a ukelele cover of Perfect Situation, just to see if I liked it or not, and it was okay I guess but I decided to start again, and then I got sick. Maybe I'll just submit the ukelele cover and upset a few people (I removed some of the defining elements of the song to do the ukelele cover, and I think that's what I didn't like about it myself)

I think I may be done! Going to try listening to this mix on a few different stereos / with different headphones to see how it sounds and then submit this sucker. Might try and add a few midi parts to add some more layers but overall I think it's sounding pretty good... miles beyond my MCS cover, that's for sure!

Fuck 'em. Post whatever you want. It is your cover.

EDIT: Really hoping we end up doing summer songs. I've got one of my personal favorites lined up for that one! Also, since I'm mostly done here I might bang out a simple cover of Buddy Holly, The Good Life, My Name Is Jonas, Undone, Hash Pipe, or Keep Fishin'. All of which are obviously glaring omissions from our setlist (and songs that I already know so shouldn't be too hard to put together quickly). I'm still upset that MCS didn't get My Favorite Accident or The Future Freaks Me Out.

  18. Yeah, man! Go ahead and do another one, if you'd like. And I totally agree. I was bummed that those two MCS songs didn't make it onto the comp. I almost did a couple last minute covers of them just to make sure they were on there, haha.

I don't see me pulling this off. I waited too long to start and my job is the busiest its ever been. I don't see how I'm going to finish this week without staying late every day, which would leave me just a few hours a night and the weekend to work on this. I hope I randomly pull it off, but it's not looking good. :(
When I started doing these, I had an insanely easy job and then I was unemployed. I got a new job that's good but insanely busy and it's killing my free time pretty badly. Adult life sucks.

  21. I hear ya. I'm working two jobs right now so I'm not at home from 6 AM to 8:30 PM every day, and by the time I get home I'm pretty exhausted. I have my drums and bass ready to go on my cover, but I'll have to do guitar and vocals this weekend. So hopefully that all works out, haha.

This might be an EP compilation. Unless everyone submits last minute songs. I haven't received anything yet. Eek! If anyone who's already for sure submitting a track wants to do a second one, I think you should!

how in the hell do you get anything done!? I'm not gone anywhere near that. For me, I technically have 4 or so hours every day I could work on it, but I don't want to spend my only free time on it. There's a lot of other things I want to do. Back when I had a bad job that didn't stress or tire me out, it was much easier.
Props to you for contributing every time with such a small amount of time you have to work on these! Maybe if I didn't start mine until the week they were due.....

  23. haha and people convinced me to give an extra week for these... haha. i'm pretty sure most people wait to the last week, and that's why there's always less than what actually sign up. life, man. i get it.

but yeah, usually when i have any free time, i WANT to be recording music, so i can definitely find time to do it. but usually when i have free time, that's when my girlfriend and friends want to hang out with me (go figure) so i make sure to leave time open in order to have a social life too. but yeah, meanwhile, i am also working on a full length album, and some other music things on the side too, haha. having two jobs definitely makes things take much longer to get finished, but i'm slowly but steadily workin on it.

  24. While the Weezer comp is getting close to being released, go ahead and vote on what you'd like the next compilation to be.

    Acoustic Covers or Summer Songs?

Man, I'm the only one who's voted Acoustic so far. haha I guess I could make my summer song acoustic if I wanted too though.
