Shit is stupid expensive. Wish Equal Vision or someone would do another small run or something. There's clearly a demand.

It only got delayed by a week, so I'm happy that it came in (somewhat) on time.

Why are some of my 12" records 45 rpm? I find it so frustrating to lift the plate and move the belt every time I get a surprise change in speed.

As far as I can tell, none of my records are labeled by their speed, so I have to set it up to play and adjust after I hear it.

Somebody here mentioned Discogs specifying the speed, but I can't seem to locate that info on mobile.

Albums pressed to 45 rpm are generally better quality as it's done to increase the fidelity of the songs.

    Should be under format, typically.

I still kick myself for not buying them both when they got pressed.

I only bought Is This Thing Loaded?

That's a bummer! Couldn't have predicted how hard this was going to be to find down the road though. Triple Crown is kind of stingy with its vinyl reissues too. But hopefully some day.

Life of Pablo, Graduation and Nothing Was the Same bootlegs arrived today.

Pablo skipped about 4 times throughout the record but apart from that she's a beaut

This is spot on. I would add that the vast majority of 12” LPs are pressed at 33 1/3, so they’re usually not marked. Stuff that’s pressed at 45 rpm has better fidelity because the needle traverses a longer groove (more acoustic information) over an equally constrained playing time. Of course the higher speed and longer groove also means that less audio can fit on each side of the record, which means that most full length albums would become 2xLPs by necessity.

I'll never understand why hip hop records don't get pressed automatically anymore. Enough DJ's still spin vinyl, and enough white kids would eat it up.

Correctomundo. It's noticeable sometimes too. I bought the 45 2lp version of the Nirvana Greatest Hits, my buddy bought the 33 1lp version, the 2LP is a lot more dynamic.

Is there a way to just look at the record itself and be able to train yourself to see the grooves are 33 or 45? Probably not, or a quick google search would have already provided that answer.

I just don't know if it's worth it to buy a Pro-Ject Speed Box, but I'd love to switch the speed on the fly when I start playing at the wrong speed.

There's no way to really tell.

When you buy a record, the label usually details that on the page.

If you don't feel like switching the belt over (I had literally no idea you had to touch the belt on those TT's) then get a speed box or look at getting a direct drive TT.

Next Show - Foals April 22nd

Changing the belt over on a Pro-Ject takes all of what, 15 seconds? Sure, it's a bit of a nuisance, but not worth spending $130 on IMO. That being said, the speed box also offers better stability so there may actually be an increase in audio quality. I think the first upgrade I'll make to my Carbon will be an Acrylic platter over the speed box.

Yeah. I can get the Acyril-It for $80 from the same friend who hooked me up with the Debut Carbon DC at cost.

Can't invest anymore into it in the near future regardless. I've sunk all the cash I can into it for now.
