I personally was never put off the lyrics but I can understand why someone would be

 

I really don't care for No Control that much.

 

I too, for very selfish reasons, always think of mainstream pop culture consumables, and whether or not I’ll be fortunate enough to see them, when considering the state of our foreign and domestic affairs as a country.

 

I thought it was for the gaming dexterity, not their general muscular build? Maybe I’m missing something in my interpretation.

 

It’s just a way to throw light human on a very dark possibility

 

I feel like you should know that "reporting" people for having different opinions is a running gag in this thread.

I for one am glad you're here. I enjoy all of Brand New's records quite a bit. So it's nice to have someone around who appreciates the first couple albums as much as I do and I enjoy hearing takes from someone who's been a fan for so long, even though I disagree with maybe half of your takes.

When 2012 seemed like an inevitable truth to my younger dumber self, all I could think about was all the cool movies and games I’d be missing out on.

 

I’m heading to bed, so can’t discuss in detail, but I interpret that line as a critique of those who exercise to perfect the way they look, rather than for general health.

Overall I interpret the song as a commentary on contemporary life, especially the digital part, including video games.

I haven’t figured out how every line fits that interpretation, but it’s the most common thread I can find through the lyrics.

It's wild to me that Brand New not only put out an album, but that it's potentially the best album of their career

This is only shocking to me because a lot of my favorite artists released albums this year that were my least favorite of theirs or middle of their discography at the highest

As a really casual BN fan, I enjoyed this but it certainly doesn't live up to TDAG by a long shot. Then again, I had nothing invested in it and wasn't rabidly waiting for it to drop like many of you. I'm curious to see what the consensus is a couple years from now in terms of where it ranks in their discog.

Nah I'm just listening to Goodness by the Hotelier and zoning out. A perfect album, imo. Talk about a band that you already love blowing the rest of their discography out of the water

 

I'm gonna have to study this song some more. A lot of fans like it. It's certainly not my favorite.

 

Had to go deal with throwing up kid,but 'reported' has been a joke for like 800 pages (for the cool kids) and I understand different tastes and stuff, I know you really like deja and YFW I think if I remember correctly so this album doesn't really fit the style of the band that you like. ALFM

I disagree with most of your opinions of these songs though, I like no control and can't get it out but I don't think they're the best on this album. Still think In the water/137/451/same logic/waste are the best.
