90's indie/alt rock would be a cool comp
    or spring/summer

  2. Songs that remind us of summer would definitely be cool. It'd fit with our Fall compilation too. My top picks right now are definitely:

    Acoustic Covers
    Summer Songs
    Drive-Thru Records bands

am unfairly biased against acoustic covers but that's most of my stuff ends up being acoustic anyway due to procrastination >:)

Got a fun idea for one. Cover a song from the year you were born.

Hopefully I'm able to actually join the next comp. Sad I had to miss this one. For suggestions, um, maybe a song from the first album you ever purchased? (though, knowing this site, that could turn into another Blink-182 comp pretty easily) haha

Much to my displeasure, I may have to bow out of the Weezer compilation. Sucks because I really wanted to do it, but I am super sick at the moment and can't get a vocal take going. I had finished all the instrumentation for my cover as well, which makes this all super disappointing. I say "May have to bow out" because I'll still keep trying to get something done, but I'm not sure how successful I'll be.

    Yes, yes and yes.

    That sounds fun!

EDIT: Looking at a list of songs that came out the year I was born. There's at least five that I'd actually love to cover! Ha

  10. The #1 song on the day I was born was "Rock Me Amadeus" by Falco. Haha...

Hey guys! Just wanted to remind you that this is the last week to get your covers sent over to me for the Weezer compilation! The tracks are due on Sunday.

If you've already told me that you will no longer be able to participate, just disregard this. :-)

I hope the rest of you are still planning on being on here! Be sure to send your finished covers to [email protected]

    K bye!

So I am moving this month, and this weekend I brought a bunch of stuff to my folks house to store in the garage. Just now realizing I put all my recording equipment in there : (

Guess I'm out for this comp....damnit I actually spent a lot of time this weekend working on my arrangement!

  14. Hopefully somebody will submit one, haha.

is it the same for you? Prestigious

i need to do more vocal takes (particularly for the chorus), and i'm going to try to sample some cajon sounds from my band's album to add percussion.

i always liked this song, but i never realized how good the production is. it's really impressive.

I wish people could just let these breathe! Weezer hasn
come on man! We have a week! Doesn't everyone submit theirs as late as possible on sunday night/monday morning?

    Or is that just me?

  17. I wish it was just you, haha. It'd stress me out less, BUT it's all good! :-)

I still need to record guitar and do vocals on my cover.

It's funny. Last week, while my girlfriend and a bunch of friends were watching Game of Thrones, I had my laptop and headphones in and programmed all the bass and drums to my cover. I had to figure out how to play it by just listening to it because I didn't have a guitar or anything with me. So I was playing air guitar and making chord shapes with my hands. I probably looked ridiculous sitting there, but it was cool. I think I did it right, haha.

  18. I'm still planning to submit for this. I finally upgraded from Logic 9 to Logic X a few months ago and I've been dragging my feet on learning the new software. This project motivated me to finally get through the rest of the Logic X textbook I bought and get my new MIDI keyboard running. This will be the first track I produce with the new setup.

Did you use Garageband previously? I'm about to make the upgrade...

I've been using 9 for awhile and hate change. I'd love to hear a few of your thoughts on X

  21. I only used Garageband for a few months back in 2010 when I first started to attempt home recording. I quickly came up against some barriers where the program was a little bit too limited for what I wanted to do, so I upgraded to Logic 9. I will say that Logic is WAY more complex than Garageband and I was completely overwhelmed when I first made the switch.

I ended up buying a textbook to learn it, which is probably the best advice I can give you if you want to make the upgrade. I would highly recommend this one if you're going to be upgrading to Logic X. I just finished it and it covers a ton of material (everything I wanted to know, plus a ton of cool features I probably never would have even discovered on my own). I thought the learning curve would be really boring and tedious, but the lessons in the book were actually pretty fun. I think upgrading is 100% worth it because Logic is so much more powerful and opens up a ton of possibilities that I didn't feel like I had with Garageband.

Awesome, thanks man. I'll definitely buy that book. I'm sure I'll be quoting you in the near future once I start running into problems with Logic, haha.

  23. Haha no problem, man. Glad to help.

  24. I had been using 9 for over 5 years, so I was very hesitant to switch and go through another learning period. I'm definitely glad that I did. There are so many little things that have been tweaked to feel more intuitive than they were in 9. Most of it is stuff I didn't know I wanted changed until I saw how it was done in X and realized how much nicer it felt than it did in 9 haha.

As far as brand new features, a few highlights for me so far:
    1. Drummer - I'm not a drummer, so programming drums is always the longest and most tedious part of the recording process for me. This feature is going to save me an incredible amount of time and frustration.
    2. Bass Amp Designer - The Logic 9 Guitar Amp Designer is pretty awesome, but I always had a hard time getting good bass sounds out of the limited Bass Amp plugin. X has a whole amp designer suite for the bass which makes it way easier to get the kind of bass sound you're looking for.
    3. Flex Pitch - This is basically Melodyne built into Logic. I wish I knew about this feature before I shelled out for the new version of Melodyne a few months ago, because it looks like it'll be mostly redundant now.

Hope that helps. I don't work for Apple, I'm just really excited about this at the moment haha. It really is a significant step up. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!

Damn, "built in Melodyne" will be super helpful.
