I feel like Marigolden is so underappreciated. Wish I could get more people to listen to that album.

    I just love his voice.

Shit, I wish I could get more people to listen to the 2 DeYarmond Edison records. Those guys created something beautiful and way too many people sleep on it.

Still blows my mind they all grew up together.

    I think God's a painter

i could talk up marigolden for days on end. just the shimmering, heartbreaking beauty of that record. it's one of those albums that just swells with love in that intangible way. it makes me feel so many feels

just my pseudo-science opinion but i think that music has less do to with the nut and bolts of the musicianship and more to do with the state of consciousness of the artist when it's being made in terms of its emotional power. marigolden is one of those records where that seems the most obvious

It really is a transportive record. I really can't explain what it does to me. One of my favorites of the decade, easily.

I have Marigolden on my iPod and have never listened to it that closely. I do love the DeYarmond Edison records though, but how much of that is JV I'm not sure

Really wanna hear these and the demos. Did the 7" come with a digital download?

They didn't and I'm really upset about it. I'm gonna find someone with a record player that'll record and transfer soon.

About to get ready for the 3 hour drive to Grand Rapids for his set tonight. Has anyone seen him on this tour yet?

Okay so I’m new to Noah. Heard his name thrown around a lot and is just one of those artists I never got around to. But I’ve been listening to this new one and I love it.

Recs on his best albums to go back to?

Start with Ledges and move forward from there. Pretty thrilling to watch his evolution.

Drove 2 and a half hours (both ways) in the pouring rain to see him Saturday night and it was worth every second.

Holy shit you guys.. I've been to 3 of his shows before that and while they were all amazing, this was on another level. All of the new songs were incredible live. He put on a fucking SHOW for "Cocaine, Sex, and Alcohol". The band sounds incredible and the noises Abby is making with her violin are out of this world. It really shined during "Wake Me Up..." Their sound is HUGE. It helped that the venue at The Pyramid Scheme has one of the best sound systems I think I've ever heard.

In terms of what he played outside of the new songs, I can't really ask for too much more. He played Day Is Gone and transitioned the outro right into First Defeat. The climax in First Defeat was worth the price of admission alone. He played Cigarettes and one other for the encore. Finished with Bad Desire.

10/10 and easily one of the best sets I've ever seen after Bon Iver

Here's a clip of the climax during First Defeat and some of Wake Me Up

My experience seeing him last night was...not as good. Noah and the band were great, but the sound was bleh and the crowd suuuccccked.

That's a bummer. There were definitely some crowd annoyances at my show as well. The main one being this guy and his 2(?) girlfriends standing in front of us literally not paying attention at all and engaging in pretty gross PDA. I went to the bar, got another beer, and stood in front of him and it was great from that point on. Noah mentioned how it had been his favorite audience in a while.

edit: There was certainly too much talking in general though when there should be absolutely none.

Yeah there was a lot of general chatter and like six separate groups of people just being really obnoxious in the middle of songs - one group would scream or yell something, which would set off another group, which set off a third, and so on.

I get it, its exciting to be at a show, but like, read the room. The first time I saw Noah it was at a much smaller venue and there was a group of four of five dudes who were really into it and really loud - but aside from loudly singing along (which I won't begrudge them at all) they weren't disruptive DURING songs, so it was actually kind of fun to have them there (my friend and I speculated one of them was going through a bad break-up and his bros were all helping him through it by bringing him to the show). They weren't screaming "MUSHROOMS!" during a quiet break in the middle of a song.

  17. not that anyone should be tired of this yet, but I think a lot of people in here would like the Jeremy Enigk record that just came out. "Empty Row" especially is very Carry the Ghost.

Jeremy Enigk is never bad. I will find a way to turn his song "World Waits" into a short film before I die, there are so many cinematic moments on that track.

He's sounding incredible in this session. Fear And Loathing was perfect and the stripped down version of After All was amazing as well.

It's not showing up but it's on the paste and daytrotter fg page

Crowd in Philly was so terrible last night. Two sets of drunk girls yelling between songs, complaining they wanted Ledges songs, and singing louder than him during the quiet parts when he actually did some of those songs. Noah’s a hell of a professional, mostly being patient, ignoring, and joking about the drunks instead of letting it ruin his concentration.

Thank god his band’s absolutely crushing it these days... show was still great, just more annoying than it should’ve been. Respect that he wants to play all the new material without compromising at all (even though that meant 0 CTG songs, which was wild to me...not even “Heartbreaker”?). “Bad Desire” really works as an encore closer, which surprised me; the band just sounds so FULL. Loved their light show and the dynamics were super on-point.
