I still play BR every few nights with mates. Duos seems to be much easier. Clocked up 4 wins on that! I really enjoy the tactical approach, picking the right fights, knowing when to hide and let others battle it out, etc. The supply drops are fantastic and add another dynamic. Cannot wait for new maps and game variations. I assume that’s a while away yet, but yeah.

Does anyone on here understand how commenting on Kotaku works? I sent a support message into them because every comment I post, it says "Pending" and legitimately stays in pending for months. I've only ever had one comment approved. The response I got back from their support was "Unfortunately, we have no power over which accounts any of our blogs follow. Those decisions are purely editorial." I have no clue what that means and they never responded to my follow up. Does that mean the Kotaku blog has to be following my account in order for me to comment?

Not only was it the best South Park game possible to that point, it was also the best sequel to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door that Nintendo refuses to make.

Anyone got any good recommendations for iOS? I just picked up an iPhone 8 Plus after 5 years with the iPhone 5 so feel I can actually play modern iOS games without my phone shitting the bed.

I just picked up Don't Starve and Severed. Also, redownloaded Superbrothers and picked up To The Moon, as I adored that on desktop.

Play Pokémon Go! Haha. Actually is the only mobile game I play at all anymore. Once in a blue moon I'll pull out Super Mario Run.

  17. Jason Schreier said on Splitscreen this week that he’s reviewing The Fractured But Whole and is going to unpack his views on South Park’s libertarian, make-fun-of-everyone politics in the review. South Park has entirely lost me in the past five years or so for that reason alone so I’m excited to read it.

    Feel like there’s a 45% chance I’m buying a Switch this week.

Liberals call South Park libertarian or centrist, Conservatives call South Park liberal and so on and so on. From my experience, as someone who has seen every episode, they can't be consitently shoehorned into any ideology. This idea that South Park says "lol everyone is equally dumb" is simplified and largely inaccurate and mostly perpetuated by people that admit to not watching it (or not in a long time or consitently). I like South Park, can't wait to play the game.

If one has actually watched any of this current season of South Park, you'd know that they're pretty clearly picking a side when it comes to Trump and the alt-right. They even took down Facebook/Zuckerberg this week for failing to control blatant lies and harassment that take place on the platform.

I think it's easy to misconstrue South Park's approach as "everyone is equally stupid" when in reality it's more that they just call out stupidity regardless of where it comes from. There's an actual difference there that a lot of discourse on the show seems to always omit.

People are multifaceted (plus there are lots of different kinds of "libertarians") and he's not the only person that works on that show.

Also @Anthony_ is right. South Park quite often positions itself on one side as opposed to another, depending on the issue. If you think they always apply the same ideology to any issue you're really not paying attention. Like I said though, most of this stuff literally comes from people that don't even really watch the show. I'm not someone that defends a thing I like blindly and South Park is far from perfect, but most of the South Park criticism from the liberal side (which is the side I hear from more, I don't even want to know what "conservatives" say about it these days because I'm sure it's dumb) is just plain wrong.

  23. This is getting weirdly defensive. All I’m saying is the show has lost me in recent years because of its libertarian political slant and I’m excited to read a review of the game that addresses the politics specifically.

I am just questioning the validity of all those critics that I frequently hear talking shit about the show even though they admit to not watching it (which the Kotaku guy admittedly might or might not be one of). Again, not attacking you at all, I don't know if you actually watch it.

I'm also just kind of tired of terrible takes by video games pundits on all kinds of things, so there is that. I stopped listening to a lot of video game podcasts because I have an actual economics degree and my ears started bleeding from all the nonsense I hear from video game crirics across the ideological spectrum.
