They killed it in Queens Friday night of course. Tho I’m not gonna like the Sleep Well Beast songs live pale in comparison to the past albums.

So pumped they bright back the Vanderlyle singalong closet tho

Haha he’s just so intense, he genuinely makes me nervous. Like when he’s dancing on top a drum kit and almost falling or crowd surfing like, a hundred feet into the audience. Guy is just crazy (in the best way).

Went to see them last night and, after they finished playing "The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness", they shut all the lights off so we were literally in total darkness and out of that darkness came Matt's voice, "This next one is for Karl Rove. Fuck you, Karl." Then they started playing "Walk It Back" which got a big laugh.

He also joked around after finishing "The Day I Die" by saying, "We're working on a children's story based on that song. Pixar is interested. They told us the ending was "too dark" though. We were like fuck you, Pixar" which also got a good laugh.

It was amazing to see them live and yeah, that Vanderlyle singalong was fantastic. The only bummer was that the guys sitting behind us talked throughout Daughter's entire set. By that I do not mean that they talked occasionally, stopped for a bit and then picked back up again. I mean they literally talked through the entire set. It was so frustrating because I wanted to see Daughter just as badly. That and the whole crowd sat through all of Daughter's set and seemed largely disinterested. As soon as The National came out everyone immediately got on their feet and stayed that way until the end. That made me feel bad for Daughter because, damn, they're an incredible band and mean so much to me.

Need some time to really perfect them in a live setting. I'm sure they'll shine eventually.

Turtleneck killed in Pittsburgh, whereas sadly no one seemed to care when they played I'll Still Destroy You, which to me should be the new National Anthem.

  8. I was going nuts for both in Pittsburgh, especially the latter!

When I saw them Matt messed up one of these verses in Turtleneck and had to start over.

My favorite is Dark Side of the Gym, great song but I also just think it's really interesting lyrically.

So these guys are coming back to Dublin in June next year for some sort of mini festival or something. Two days in a small stadium with a full line up of special guests. Doors open at 2pm. Weird but fuck I'm excited.

They just added a random Buffalo show at a fairly small venue on 12/11 where they play at 4pm. I’m confused but I’ll take it.

something about that video, and the fact that it's probably my favorite National song, perfectly encapsulates this band to me. Like, in the future, if people ask me about them or talk about how they're just sad bland music, I would plan on sending that to them.
