We reach for the longest shadow

I'm having a hard time focusing on the negative aspects of this album compared to the positives. I wish they had trimmed some fat and gone with a 10 song album honestly.

The whistling sound in the bridge of the title track is very Welcome to Bangkok.

The last two songs on here are very impressive.

Also, I already know this will be unpopular, but after listening to the album three times, I'd say In The Middle Of It All is one of my least favorites.

I think it's great, and I didn't fully get what you guys have been talking about, but last night I was listening and now I do. Not to bring everything back to Science Fiction, but the intense parts of that album feel like they are coming out of the speakers at you. There are moments on this album that should be like that, but end up just feeling like the rest of this song.

yea, that's something that bothers me a bit but not terribly.. I don't expect most albums to sound as good as SciFi.. I really don't know what it is about this record and while I really enjoy it, I wanted it to be more.. I need to come back to it at some point with no expectations, expect a post in here from me in late October talking about how good it actually is haha

Kind of where Im at too except I think I have a more positive view of it overall. I really like it right now but I think given a few more weeks and a bit of space It'll get quite a bit better.

Anyone else notice the similarities in the pedal/effect they use throughout "You Are A Star" with the intro to Deafheaven's "Brought To The Water?"

You Are A Star is a great song, but that caught my ear lol

A nice long drive with this album made me love it. I’m ready to call it the best Citizen album, and yes I know it’s only been out for a day.

After a handful of listens I find I enjoy it more in the background or more passive listening than putting on headphones and listening intently. Not a common feeling.

Got my orange/blue swirl vinyl today. Gorgeous LP, I’m very happy with it! That being said, as much as I’m enjoying it, I feel as though I’m very aware it’s not groundbreaking, or something that’s going to stick with me for months. I don’t feel like there’s many standout songs that I just can’t get enough of. Discrete Routine is probably my favourite, purely because of that crazy effect they use that sounds like a pissed-off cat.

as much as I enjoy throwing this on, it may be my disappointment of the year.. I just had insanely high expectations for this.. I thought it would land in my top 5 for sure, I think it will be a bottom 10 or 15.. we will see there is time for it to redeem itself with me.

I still think Everybody's Going to Heaven is their best album and I will support that statement until the end of time. As You Please has been feeling pretty slow, but that's the vibe of the album so I don't really mind. I wish it was just a little heavier though.

Only gotten about 4 listens in. But also wish it had some heavier moments.

Or yip produced it to sound more dynamic.

This is easily their best album on first listen, though I still don’t know how much I’ll end up gravitating towards it. Feels like a major grower too so we’ll see.

My initial thoughts are this is definitely a grower. Didn't immediately grab me case in point the title track but the more I listen the more I am starting to appreciate it for what it is. Wish there was a few more heavier moments but it's dynamic enough throughout that I can't really complain about that. I think it's a logical progression and nicely combines the catchiness of Youth with the heaviness of EIGTH. I really need to sit down and listen to it with the lyrics soon. Will be able to have more opinion on each specific songs. Also really looking forward to listening on headphones.
