The thing with UEFA qualifying is that the "big" teams will only get challenged by 1 or 2 other teams out of a group of 5. And by challenge, I mean the opposition might score a couple of goals or grab a draw.

England's group is Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Malta. No offense, but there's no challenging team there.

Exactly. Every time, we get lulled into this false sense of security. Couple that with the odd decent result again another big team in a friendly where they're probably resting players (think Germany last year).

Then we get to a tournament and get embarrassed. It's the same every time.

Edit: I should add, I'm not delusional. I know we're not *that* good. But still.

Haven't watched England since the Iceland game at Euro 2016, feels good. I am lucky to be old enough to have watched England at Euro 96 and that was the last time they had a set-up that was capable of reaching a final of a tournament, even then because it was on home soil. 1/4's a realistic best-case for 2018. 2022 we will struggle big time because it will be an awful world cup and players + fans alike will crumble to dust in the heat.

We were awful tonight. Over the two games vs Slovenia it took us over 180 minutes to break the deadlock. We gave such a poor Slovenia team, who were only here to break up play by fouling all night, far too much respect. Even going to a back 5 late on.

The squad selection suggest we were going to set up negatively. We should put teams like Scotland, Slovenia and Slovakia to inside 60 minutes instead of relying on stoppage time goals to scrape points.

TBf Slovenia have one of the best goalies in the world (Oblak is Slovene iirc) so even if you did attack more it wouldn’t guarantee much against them

He had little to do tonight, but it was his error in trying to distribute the ball so carelessly late on in the game that cost them the point.

Interesting situation in our group now. Slovenia are essentially out as Slovakia play Malta, but they could still deny Scotland a play off place. I think the Scotland game will be more interesting than the England game on Sunday.

IF current scorelines hold, Argentina is in sixth place going into the final qualifying game. Conmebol is wild.

Messi hit the post. That crowd is nervous. Boca Juniors would be a helluva stadium to visit one day.

Bolivia and Venezuela are 9/10. 2-7 all being up in the air with those match ups will be LIT.

I'm glad I didn't watch England last night. Sounds like it was pants, as per. We only seem to see two things with England. We either play a team who have no intention of beating us, in which case we don't have the creativity to break them down. Then we play an actually good side and they pull us to pieces. There's very rarely a middle ground.

I know we don't have a super strong squad, but it's bizarre how poorly a relatively talented set of players play together. It's like they have to put lead boots on, along with the white shirts.

I haven't watched England for a while. Partly due to them being shit, and partly because ITV's coverage is absolute dogshit.

I’m blindly optimistic/masochistic so I’ll keep watching and keep believing.

Also a good reason to avoid like the plague. ITV ruin sport. The years they had the Prem highlights were unbearable. Similarly the Formula 1.

Their 6 Nations coverage is actually decent tbh, which is a shock. They sometimes get it right, very rarely though.

Iniesta signed a lifetime contract with Barcelona this morning. He looks so happy in the photos and I’m just really glad I lived in a time where I got to see him play.

It’s insane to me that two of Argentina/Chile/Colombia could realistically not make the World Cup.

Kinda highlights the differences Sam mentioned yesterday with UEFA groups even more.

It’ll be one hell of a game on Monday night. The main channels should show that game rather than England.

I like this line-up a lot. Fabian not being called in is baffling, but he’d excel in this line-up for either Nagne or Arriola.
