I just went through and read messages from when I first joined chorus and all of the anticipation for California and everyone's reactions on release day. Aaaahhh good times.

P.S I used to love this live album, I think the majority of the songs were played in a faster tempo.

You should really give their Coloring Book EP a shot. It's such a departure from everything else they've done. Who knows? You might even like it.

Its probably the closest thing they put out that sounds like skate punk which has the speed of bands like nofx and bad religion but not the aggression.

Lol I do like your assessment of it sounding like a lullaby. I always felt like the riff was more sped up surfer rock.

 

Man..I can see the future! I bet you anything, in 50 years from now, young and aspiring guitarists will look back in 00s music and try to copy/emulate this guitar-legend named TOM DELONGE! THE CREATOR OF LULLABY-RIFF-STYLE

Jokes aside, I can fall asleep with "Anthem Part 2" or "Dysentery Guy", these simple but sweet lil lullaby riffs is what "California" needed. (Always in my personal opinion)
