I tried explaining to a dude at work what the protest is about and how the backgrounds of football players and their families are very different from the millions they make now.

He interrupted me before I had said anything and said "nah I don't wanna hear it. I've heard enough of the bullshit. You people only see your own color."

If I had followed my impulse I might have lost my job. But that kind of ignorance just isn't worth time wasted or energy spent.

If there's anything this protest did, it exposed a lot of people with shitty ways of thinking. Let them boycott the NFL so we can create a new wave of sports fan culture that isn't racist/misogynist.

 

Oh boy if this happened to me, we wouldve both gotten fired. I'm latino, so while its not completely the same for me, I can empathize and fuck...ignorant white people get me so heated

Dude didn't even stop to think "oh maybe he's mixed, maybe he has family of all colors, maybe he might understand both sides of the argument and both cultural backgrounds."

My skin is brown so I guess to him that automatically means I'm taking a side. But no, I'm the one making this discussion about race??

He just wanted to assert and be proud of his ignorance in something he doesn't remotely understand. It amazes me how people take pride in having their head up their ass.
