    I think each Harry Potter entry expands and progresses the overarching plot, while still being self contained stories. Fantastic Beasts just felt like it was 100% setup for a franchise. And the “twist” at the end was so dumb

    Fantastic Beasts was probably one of the worst movie going experiences I've ever had. The movie's meh-ness was heightened by the fact that it was an outdoor showing and it was the first cold night of the fall. I was not fully prepared to be in that weather, had just gotten off work, and was surrounded by noisy children. Oh also the screen it was projected on kept billowing cause it was so windy so everything looked very trippy. And partway through the movie during a particularly dark scene the guy at the projector decided to tinker with the brightness and stuff.

    I like parts of the movies but overall, I just prefer the books. The adaptation of GoF was trash and is pretty much way I never bothered with the later ones.

    The only one I really fight for is Azkaban. I also enjoyed Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 which I know is fairly unpopular.

    books are ok, ive seen all the movies but have no interest in seeing any of them ever again. probably my least favorite fandom ever though and i find rowling constantly revisiting and sort of revising things as obnoxious as george lucas' stupid retcons.

  14. I feel like the irony in beard culture is that it's so heavily perpetuated by non-beard-havers thinking they're at all funny or original by simply pointing out any "epic beard, bro" that happens to be in their vicinity

    I get why people get annoyed with people who compare everything that happens in the real world to HP but also I get why those people do it because fictional media almost always is meant to convey a message about the real world (unless it's some intentionally message-less wankpiece that nobody should be giving their time anyway) and as shaky as HP can be it was also among the first big book series millions of people read that touched upon serious real-world themes so in all honesty I'd rather have people have that window of comparison into understanding why things in the world are bad when they're bad rather than just not caring at all.

    Also, I'm seeing far more rage towards HP fans than obnoxiousness from the fans themselves on my end, really. To the point where it's becoming a tad bully-ish which I've seen happen with WAY too many things.

    //soapbox sorry about that lol

    Also I've liked almost all the HP movies as well as Fantastic Beasts.

    That being said, I can't think of very many pieces of media I objectively hate. "I guess I just like liking things."

    Except the Walking Dead. Fuck that show with a rake.

    I grew up with Harry Potter and credit it for helping me learn grammar and how to write. I don't think I had great English teachers growing up so I learned from reading lots of books (mainly Harry Potter) from picking up the patterns of the structure. I used to be a good writer and credit the series for helping with that. Not cause it's the be all end all but cause I just read them obsessively over and over lol. But I still don't jive when it's like someone's entire personality and I feel that way with just about anything where someone is completely defined by one thing. I went to universal studios over the summer and it was like 105 degrees and ppl were walking around in the full robes. I was wearing shorts and a tank top and thought I was gonna die idk how they survived unless there was AC in there.

    Oh, absolutely! They all contribute to the nightmare lol. I got a few people who facebook/Instagram who post shit online like "real men grow beards" and "you want your man clean shaven? you mean you want a girl?!!!!!" and then cap it off by hashtagging #pognophile just to make me facepalm myself with such force I shatter my own nose into 1 million pieces.

    Harry Potter is great and fun. Not some earth-shattering work of fiction or amazing exercise in world building. I didn't read them until I was 27 years old and I enjoyed them. To me, they are synonymous with fall - the summer is over, kids are going back to Hogwarts for the school season, sitting around the fire in the Gryffindor common room, going out for a butterbeer.

    Sure that's cheesy but it sounds cozy as hell and fall is my favorite season so I'm into it.

    The imagination necessary to create the world of Harry Potter is amazing, but I read all the books and I'm still not much of a fan. I guess it's time one of those good premiese bad execution things? Not even bad, just unremarkable

    The movie Constantine is utterly hilarious

    Not sure if it's unpopular or obscure but hey, I had to say it. It's been on my mind for like, a decade.
