Guys Antonio Brown is definitely better than OBJ

Having a faster start to your career and having more skill are different things. Perhaps you could say OBJ has even more raw talent, but the actual skill level and understanding of defenses are still not up to Brown's level. Maybe they will be when he is Brown's age, very possible but I firmly disagree he's as good now.

Who cares if Brown had to work hard for a few years, and ride the depth chart behind Mike Wallace to "become" the best WR in the NFL? Doesn't matter how long it took to climb to the summit. It's still honestly clear watching both WR tape that Brown is more sophisticated

Totally incorrect. OBJ's BEST season is AB's third best.

OBJ has only topped 1450 once. One of Brown's seasons was similar... but he's also had a 1700 and an 1850.

Somehow you not only missed the point but also are disputing plain numbers haha. I'm going purely off touchdowns. Yards, yeah, it's his fifth best then. Still. Not the point haha. Give me a 24 year old who is the 3rd best now over a 29 year old who took five years to be the second best.

Josh Gordon, but Justin Blackmon would be phenomenal in zone coverage to prevent some of Bottles' TAINTs.

I just think that's a silly way of looking at it that involves too many hypothetical assumptions over time. We're not doing a madden draft lol.

We are comparing skill sets and Brown is a considerable distance ahead of OBJ in reading defenses/adjusting routes, finding YAC opportunities, and versatility / effectiveness throughout the whole modern route tree. He splits bracket coverage and triple zones without too much trouble. Defenses have been legitimately incapable of taking away Brown.

There's no guarantee OBJ will develop those skills, those are very mental aspects of the game. He could have Moss level talent and still not understand football like Brown does.

Tbh as a Giants fan I'd admittedly be bias towards OBJ but I do think AB is still the #1 and OBJ is right behind. You're basically arguing and older/craftier with more understanding & proven guy vs. younger, raw talent, and still learning/growing. I'm happy with OBJ on my team since he is still so young, but I think overall AB is still that #1 guy rn, OBJ can become that for sure though.

All this OBJ vs AB talk while Julio Jones just quietly goes about being the greatest.

Like OBJ has stupid good speed and agility and makes the stupidest catches, I get it. At face value he has things no one else has.

But I don't think he's refined, some CBs still get in his head and frustrate him. For example I think AB would play way better against Josh Norman, would make him look silly. Last time he played the Cardinals, Peterson didn't slow him down. Sherman doesn't bother him in Seattle.

With OBJ you can tell on the field there's still dissonance sometimes between what the defense did and what OBJ expected. And he's not the WR that beats double coverage on the regular. He's the guy you just know is gonna get 80 yards if you ever single cover him with the wrong guy.

And yeah OBJ can catch it with two fingers, but we are lying to ourselves if we try to act like he doesn't drop a few when he gets pissed off. Meanwhile it's actually really hard to remember times that Brown drops passes even though he gets more targets.

OBJ is a more dangerous receiver than Brown, maybe - but so is Martavis Bryant. Overall better/more consistent? Not in anyone's dreams.

I think AB is a hair over Julio and both are firmly above OBJ.

I think OBJ, AJ Green, and Jordy Nelson are all really close, but yeah OBJ is much younger than everyone listed here so he is a surprising talent for his age.

OBJ was 7th in the NFL in YAC last year. AB was 28th.

But once again, we are missing the point lol. OBJ is 24. AB is 29. We are talking about contracts. We are talking about ROOKIE contracts. AB was not worth the money he gets now after his rookie contract. The point is you pay OBJ. Historically speaking, he has had one of the best starts ever. Is he better than AB? No. I am not saying that. What I said was I would take OBJ over AB. Huge difference.

What if that's a big reason I'd pick AB?

He has zero injury history. His career was on a straight upward arrow and only dipped last year because of Martavis. He already has elite understanding of how to beat every combination of coverage, already gets 100 yard games against basically every team and every CB. 29 isn't old yet and WR tend to last - he still has a 6 or 7-year contract left in him if you wanted to sign him to that. He is an elite punt returner. Elite both in the slot and outside. Both a short and a long yardage specialist, and my favorite skill of his - extremely elusive at the catch point to make contested catches before the CB is even ready as well. He doesn't even have to fight for the ball he's just a damn magician and plucks the ball at the perfect angle and timing. More playoff experience than most WR. Basically does not ever drop passes. And he's worked well with a lot of shitty backup QB because Roeth gets hurt every year.

And teams would still pay OBJ more because he's younger and faster. Okay, sure, let me just pay the third highest contract to the WR who is actually the most effective all because speed is more expensive than skill.

Like, I think Brown is the closest we have come to Jerry Rice since and I'm excited to see him keep putting up 1600 yard seasons in his 30s. I am very very high on Brown since I started watching coaches film on Game Rewind.

I just don't get why you're hell bent on framing the argument this way. Who cares? Calvin Johnson was injured most of his rookie contract. That doesn't diminish what people thought of his career once he did hit the limelight.
