You think? I think Jeff is pretty firm on keeping PUBG off the table, so that makes it easier I would think

 

We’ll see. It also depends on if GBeast and West will team up or not (I forget what they did last year). If they do, it will be crazy. So much content this year and as Vinny puts it, “the best time to be playing video games” haha.

 

Yeah they'll team up, they did last year and I doubt they'll change that. It's funny because I feel like Jeff hasn't been all that passionate about any game this year, except maybe PUBG, but he is kind of down on some games others love, haha.

Zelda lost it's shine pretty heavily for me, it's good, but nowhere near GOTY good for me

Splatoon is fun though, but Nier is on another level and honestly those two can't be compared with how drastically different they are

 

I know what you mean, but whole point of deciding on a game of the year is comparing the quality of different games, as dumb a task it may be intellectually haha

 

anyone playing Faeria? I think the best I could describe it is if Magic the Gathering married Hearthstone and had a bastard child that went off and betrayed the family by being a board game instead of just a card game. It's pretty fun. I love the gameplay.

It's f2p, but it's been pretty generous with the cards so far, especially compared to Duelyst. Another fantastic card game.

Anybody waiting on the Fortnite servers to go back up? Battle Royale mode is live today, free to play, and it's essentially a wackier version of Player Unknown's Battlegrounds. It's so much fun. And it's free. Bloody love it, and it's rare such a good PS4 title is free.

 

Definitely going to get on this, battle royale games are always a ton of fun, especially when they pressure you into playing instead of just hiding for an hour or so

 

Yeah, games rarely last longer than 15 minutes on this as of now. It can get real tense, but it doesn't take itself seriously at all. While obviously it draws heavily from PUBG, it very definitely has its own unique quirks (building, traps, the art style, the humour, the environment). And again...it's free!

 

Yeah I really like the building aspect of it, I don't know how big of a part that can play yet but just watching some people build to the top and get knocked down is hilarious

 

That's what's refreshing - I've barely touched that aspect. You can use it to your advantage or steer well clear. It doesn't have a huge impact on gameplay unless you're good at doing it. Plus, gathering materials is loud, so there's a risk/reward situation with that. The only time I have used it was to build a staircase to get to good loot hidden in the roof of a house, or to barricade myself in a basement with brick walls, waiting for the enemy to bust in. It's so exciting and I really recommend everybody at least try it.

 

I might look into that, is it on Xbox One too?

It's been the source of a lot of controversy actually, in that PUBG makers are claiming it's a clone and they're unhappy. Despite the fact that PUBG wouldn't exist without H1Z1, and there was The Culling and GTA modes echoing it too. I appreciate them directly citing PUBG as an influence is a bit much, but at the end of the day, I think I read somewhere that in all likelihood they wouldn't win, as most gameplay elements aren't actually covered by copyright law?

Additionally, with PUBG going about it publicly in a press release instead of normally, behind closed doors and whatnot, it just comes across as sour and in fact served to promote Fortnite. I literally had no idea this existed until PUBG devs released that statement. It's free and has beaten PUBG to consoles, why else would I not download it? Foolish move I say. But it benefits us all!

 

Yeah, they've really overreacted on this one. The one difference that PUBG had was they forced players into a much tighter time limit but even then it's still copying the mechanics of the battle royale game, only making it much more fast paced than anything.

 

Anyone know when the servers are going to be back up for it?

 

Supposedly within the next hour. I'm hoping around now.

 

Yeah I think I've posted about the controversy, it's all very dumb really, it's just game media and fans not understanding business and the law all over again

Also forgot to say that Rise of the Tomb Raider is amazing right now, the story hasn't really gripped me that much but the gameplay itself is wonderfully well done
