Honestly yes. I understand it takes time to roll albums out because of pressing vinyl and getting ready for a physical release, but I don't see why bands don't just put out a digital stream early. Especially with this release, where Christian told people not to listen to people who have heard the album and wanted everyone to make their own impression, plus the issue with the clips. I think they could have allowed people to have that special first experience early when they first announced the album, because it seems like it's almost inevitable in today's world to roll out an album with without having some sort of leak issue.

Don't get me wrong, I love the band, I'm going to love this album, and they're free to do whatever they want because it's their band, not mine. Just my personal opinion on album releases in general.

i mean, have some patience. you're getting a record within two and a half years, many fans of bands aren't so lucky

Yeah that's a good point, too. I don't know, I guess I'm an impatient person when I know I'm going to be getting something haha with Brand New, for example, I'm not so desperate because I have no clue what's out there.

Yeah, for me impatience comes from having a concrete date and knowing it so far in advance. I would be less impatient for the record to come out next year if I didn't have a date than I am to wait a few months knowing an exact date.

In literally every way, yes. We knew the name of the record, whoop de do. Could have announced it along with Piano instead of letting people like me sit in nervous anticipation for three months checking my phone eight times a day to see if it's out. There was literally not a single advantage to this lead up and roll out, other then giving kids on this message board something to tirelessly speculate over which has gotten really exhausting in its own right.

    The entitlement is strong here

Who cares how the band is rolling this album out, point is we're getting another album and its fucking phenomenal

    It's my mum's dodge caravan

Tbh Brand New taking 6 years to release a follow up puts the 3 month or so wait for this into perspective lol

I would've yeah. Really don't like such a long lead up

I really wouldn't call it entitlement. People even said they'd be fine, comparatively, with it releasing next year. It's just the long cycle.

  10. Yeah, I don't know if I'd mix up "impatience" with "entitlement," haha. It is a long rollout, and I've seen much worse as far as the latter goes.

no lead up is always the best lead up but i get why it was so long this time around. i think having goodness pt. 1 be the album trailer worked pretty well from a "getting ppl to talk about this / getting blogs to cover this" standpoint, and tiny engines does long lead ups pretty regularly (annabel and look mexico)

pretty upset/bitter about something else loosely related to the lead up, but not the lead up itself

We knew the album was coming anyway, why does getting a release date make the wait any harder? We still have to wait the same amount of time.

I think it's just having it on your mind. I wouldn't have been really thinking about a new Hotelier album if they hadn't made an announcement, at least not as much as I've been thinking about it since they announced it.

Why would you check your phone eight times a day to see if something is out if you have a concrete date? Sounds like a personal problem imo.

yeah feel like anticipation increases when you have some information about a record, that's the whole point of announcing it early, so people get excited enough to talk about it and spread the word

But then in the midst of that long lead up, after sending out advances, you tell your fans to tune out the people spreading excitement. It just doesn't feel right.

i agree with you and that's why lead-ups in general and the whole idea of having people circulate hype feels calculated and weird to me, but they're also (apparently) a big part of how records get the audience they deserve, so yeah. i mean idk what to say really. also i think there's a difference between people who haven't heard a record talking about how excited they are to hear it and people who have heard it getting people excited about it. not that one is wrong or w/e, just a different dynamic.

Yeah I see that but that makes it easier for me, anticipating rather than just wondering when we're going to get some news.

the one time yellowcard got mad at people in the lift a sail thread on AP for discussing the album clips amongst ourselves is still funny to me

tbf, there was that one kid making comments about the production based on 96kbps clips

I've always wondered how much the lead up to an album affects album sales. I can definitely see the hype around an album drawing people in, but I feel like albums that are released out of nowhere or albums that get a lot of hype after they're released (like Home) still get a lot of new listeners.

yeah ryan mendez either tweeted or came into the thread himself and talked about how bummed out he was that people were overanalyzing. which i guess is understandable, but we were just really excited and latching onto the only thing that was there to satisfy our excitement

same!!! i rly wish someone would do a study on album lead ups -> album sales and resolve this once and for all

Oh, yeah, that kinda rings a bell. I get it from his perspective for posts like those stupid production comments, but otherwise I wouldn't be mad about buzz spreading.

I just look at how much buzz was around Say Anything's last album and they didn't have any lead up. I know The Hotelier aren't quite as big as Say Anything, but I think they have enough buzz around them that they would be successful. Especially because the album is really good.
