VW is not a masterpiece when it's got Phantasmagoria on it

I don't think I really like any song on VW.

the most I like of any one VW track is like 1/2

which is probably more than Descensus tbh save for Sovereign Circle

    obliterate all prior things

Birth of the Economic Hitmen, The Lottery, My Only Friend, Bird Sounds, and I'll Find a Way hold up VW completely to me in a way that makes me say VW is not their worst. Every other song on it though is mediocre to plain bad.

BSN, on the other hand, to me is overall worse because it has no vibe to it ((in my opinion)). It feels like a set of half bad, half good-to-great songs that were obliterated in the studio to such a degree that I personally rarely listen to that album anymore at all. When it first came out, I was very disappointed right away on first listen, which is what many of you are describing about VW. I can totally understand that feeling. I think it just comes down to unreachable expectations and the way we all tend to take ownership of Circa as our favorite band. It leads to this sense of betrayal, like, I can't believe they would write a record this way and tailor it to the aspects of the band that I most enjoy.

The Amulet sounds great and has no bad songs weighing it down. The natural consequence of that though is that it feels too short and almost unfinished. No Circa record is perfect for me because even Juturna and OLG have mediocre songs here and there, but nostalgia is king. I was 15 when OLG came out and it was literally the greatest thing I had ever heard at the time. That's a really difficult association parse out and to move past. I still say The Amulet must be up there with the first 2 LPs, it just feels different than it used to.

From Indian Lakes is a nearly flawless band. Harvard was nearly flawless band. They are aging a bit because the whole genre just reminds me of the last 2000's and therefor highschool for me, but it's incredibly pretty music even if the lyrics especially can be a little cringeworthy at times (The Receiving End of Sirens really suffer from this). I've barely listened to Foxing. It didn't fully grab me and struck me as a little too boring honestly.

I love how Joey creates a certain dynamic/feel for each album he makes and somehow it all works. I've enjoyed every release so far and Harvard's The Inevitable and I is a masterpiece. Love that album so much

Nice to see people praising The Inevitable and I, that's a killer album and I don't see that band talked about really. Are they even still active? I know they had that slight name change a few years back.

Unfortunately no. They even had a new drummer after Tim left, but then they just fizzled away.. no announcement or nothing. Which totally sucked cause I was looking forward to a follow up to FTBC. I think the lead singer started a new project of some sort

that's totally a band that would never have existed if Circa didnt exist. pretty much 100% of what they were was influenced by them

I remember when someone released a leaked zip of that album all over the place and labeled the file newcircasurvive2010leak.zip or something to that effect months before BSN had a name and a single. I remember it made the rounds hard and even Colin made comment about it on his Twitter.

I enjoyed their songs tho and even happened to have ran into one of their live shows at SXSW once and stayed to watch

The singer was a weird cat. Wore masks and shit when they performed. Would have liked a 3rd album from them

Yeah true. I remember he would make all sorts of hand gestures. First time I saw them live they played almost all of The Inevitable and I, it was amazing. Only like twenty of us there haha

Yeah, totally wouldn't have existed without circa. Harvard to me always sounded like the lovechild of Circa Survive and Kaddisfly.

revisited the earlier 3 albums today, Juturna has some incredible songs and the best parts are probably the best in the entire band's career, but overall i feel The Amulet is more consistent and has better songwriting. OLG is really good and I enjoyed it even more than usual. BSN is still amazing and a personal favorite, i know a lot of people don't like the overpolished feel of it, but to me it sounds like an album where a lot more time was put into the songwriting than any of the other albums. right now I feel The Amulet is neck to neck with Juturna for their 3rd best album for me.

I requested for Every Way and he's playing it! Weeeeeeee

This feels like an unpopular opinion, but that song is probably a top 10 Circa song for me. Very important song to me.
