No idea where I sit with this but there is no way it's their worst. The song writing on here is really cool

Really want to try and catch them next time they're in the UK, assuming they'll tour the amulet here. Haven't seen them since '07 when they just played a half-hour set on a shitty Kerrang tour.

I'm listening to Saosin's latest album and then listening to this, lol. Album just really sounds like a Circa record but lacking the interesting instrumentalists. Pretty underwhelming album overall and goes on for too long imo.

The Stutter Says A Lot, Second Guesses, Sore Distress, etc. are *so* Circa, it's ridiculous.

Yeah the two bonus songs should have made the album. Make it infinitely more interesting.

I think something like all the even numbered tracks were good and the odds were instantly forgetable. Production was super limp too

After having quite a while to sit with it, this is easily in my top 3 Circa albums at least. Just a great all-around representation of what makes this band great.

I really loved that saosin album, and I think it sounded a ton like 2003 without the immature lyrics. It's a great album about coming to terms with your past mistakes and moving onn from them. I wouldn't expect circa fans to like it though.

It was a lot better than I expected it to be, especially after not enjoying VW, Descensus or ISOSG at all.

this is probably sitting at around 5 for me. VW is my least fav but is still a good album. this and Descensus are neck and neck. its a good album, a real good album in fact, it just isnt a masterpiece or a game changer or anything and thats fine because i wasnt expecting that. its another really good Circa album, thats really all i can ask for

which of their albums are masterpieces or game changers to you?

the first two are for me. the way the guitarists weave their lines is crazy unique.

and Amulet goes back to that measure. but yeah, if nothing else, I'm willing to call At Night it Gets Worse a masterpiece. the melody in the chorus is insanely good.

I'm realizing it's super silly to talk about stuff not being a game changer like it's a common thing.

and no I'm not throwing shade, I have those thoughts internally pretty often when I listen to albums. like a "so what" feeling, like I'd rather be seeking out the albums that are the game changers instead since there's a trillion albums on this earth. to clarify

This is probably sitting in the middle of their discography for me right now. I already think I like it more than VW and Descensus, but it hasn't touched the first 3 so far. I could see it eventually overtaking Juturna with enough time and as I get to know the album (and lyrics) better, but all that is pretty arbitrary anyways. It's a great Circa Survive album. No surprises there.

I think the only thing Anthony's done that I'd consider a masterpiece is TTN. OLG is fantastic and pretty unique though.

I think this is third for me after OLG and BSN, I can see it possibly overtaking BSN eventually.

TTN is endearing but I think it's going to continue to age poorly and be considered a product of its time and niche genre. It's got a whole lot of amateurish feel to it too even if I love it. 14 year old me would jam the fuck out of that so much

Honestly I like it even more as time goes on and it feels more like the spark that ignited a genre or at least the best that it produced. I love that EP so much.

TTN is pretty timeless and awesome to me. I'd put it above everything Circa except Juturna and OLG.

That new LP last year wasn't bad, but it sure as hell didn't have the kind of quality riffs or off-the-wall vocal melodies TTN did. It really did feel more like Circa-lite at times. I kinda suspect TTN was drug-fueled lightning in a bottle and its follow-up full LP was always going to be somewhat disappointing, whether in 2005 or 2016.

As far as where The Amulet sits in their discography for me right now, it's only at fifth for me. Those first three albums occupy such a special place in my heart and were very formative in my exploration of music and have consistently been rocks for me during difficult times in my life. Thise albums really changed a lot for me and for the better. They're all masterpieces to me.

Violent Waves is a weird album for me. I like it, for sure, but it's without a doubt my least favorite. I remember it coming out and being a bit disappointed at first, but then I think I just convinced myself that it was their best and that I loved it. At the time, I don't think I was able to accept the idea of one of my favorite bands releasing their worst album to date. Over time, it didn't hold up.

Descensus, from listen one, blew me away and is still in constant rotation for me when I want to listen to this band. I think the band was very interesting and varied in its approach on this album and it still remains fresh for me. Out of everything they've done post-BSN, Descensus has come the closest to occupying the same space as their first three albums (although I'm not sure it ever will simply because of how formative those first three were for me).

It's obviously way too early for me to gauge how I'll feel about The Amulet so a lot of this post may seem pointless, but I think this is a very good album, despite having a bit of a lukewarm reaction to it after my initial reactions. Maybe it's because it's just another very good in a band's consistently very good discography. It doesn't reach the heights of Descensus or those first three albums for me, or at least not often (Flesh And Bone is flawless). My early reaction to this album is similar to the early reactions I had to Violent Waves, although I can say with confidence that this album is much more interesting than that album is.

Maybe over time The Amulet occupies the same space as Descensus and maybe even Juturna (OLG and BSN are the ones I have the greatest personal attachment to), but for right now it sits pretty low overall, which is not meant to cast shade on this album at all. Descensus was just far more immediate for me than this album and this album has such a strong discography that some of their albums just have to sit at the bottom. This album is hella dope.
