  1. Downloading watchOS 4 for the Siri face haha. I’m liking all of the native Apple apps looking like the Apple Music layout in iOS 11. Some of the new animations like multitasking or opening an app is really nice. Runs super smooth on my 6s

Siri face is cool, if you allow location to a lot of apps that it will use a data source. If you don't allow location to most apps, then it's fairly useless. They removed maps as a data source midway through the beta, which was probably one of the more useful features of it.

She takes the occasional picture or scan and uses Facebook, Spotify and E-Mail and stuff like that, that's more or less it. My guess she's not the only one. Having 16GB phone was a nightmare for me though.

I forgot about the awful "a" in Notes. Hurts my brain every time I look at it.

  5. Gruber on the iPhone 8:
These new iPhones look and feel great. I’ve been testing a silver iPhone 8 and gold iPhone 8 Plus since last Wednesday. Whether you like the way their polished back glass looks is subjective, but I like it a lot. Feel-wise, there’s no question in my mind that glass is better than aluminum. My personal iPhone 7 that I’ve been using for the last 11 months, however, is the jet black model, which in hand feels very similar to the glass of the iPhones 8. With both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 in my pocket I can’t tell them apart by feel, but that’s only because my 7 has the jet black finish.

I’ve never owned a Plus-sized iPhone, and last year my review unit did not have the jet black finish, so I found the 8 Plus with glass back to be a revelation. I prefer it so much to any previous Plus-sized iPhone I’ve tested that it almost feels like a different form factor, not just a different material. I’ve always found the Plus unwieldy, and part of that is that aluminum is slippery enough that, combined with the size of the device, it just felt like something I had to consciously think about to avoid dropping. However, just like the jet black aluminum finish, the polished glass back of these new phones is grippier. That grippiness is a nice feature for the 4.7-inch size, but for the Plus, I think it’s a necessity —— it makes it far more pleasant to hold and use.

Amazing thing is Federico writes this entire thing on an iPad Pro. For those who don't know, he is one of the co-hosts of the Connected podcast. They go VERY in-depth on Apple / iOS / macOS each week.

Just finished the iOS update on my 7 Plus and really like it so far. I didn't do any of the betas so it's all new for me - but so far so good!

So what's the deal with this again? Because I'm on 4 now and I can control my music still.

  8. Review: The iPhone 8 is a look into the augmented future of photography
Nearly every iPhone upgrade for the past several years has been driven by the camera. There have been impressive updates in hardware and feature additions, but anecdotally I cannot count the number of times people have cited the camera as the primary reason that they’re interested in updating their phone.

So, how does the camera in the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus stack up?

    Killer.

The bolder text is one of the more user-friendly things they have done in awhile. My mom has always complained that text is hard to read on the iPhone and one of the major reasons she regretted not getting the 7 Plus - this should help out considerably.

Plus, you can use Siri to retrieve information from OmniFocus too: “Siri, what’s on my Product Meeting list in OmniFocus?” or “Siri, show me my Gardening tasks in OmniFocus!” You can even mark an item complete: “Mark water the lawn complete in OmniFocus.”
Big Omni updates for iOS 11. Some really cool stuff.

You can only control music that is actually on your watch with watchOS 4. In watchOS 3, you could change the source between phone/watch in the Music app on your watch, but that is gone with watchOS 4. Now if it’s on your phone but not your watch, you have no way to play it directly from the watch itself.

You can control music that is currently playing on your phone but you cannot go and select any music to play from your watch itself, unless it’s on the watch.

  18. Ah. I never even played around with it before, I always just select music from my phone anyway.

For example ... say you’re cleaning around the house and you leave your phone on your desk ... you cannot remotely go in and pick another album to start playing (that is on your phone, but stored not your watch) from the watch, like you could in watchOS 3.

Same. I do know people that use their watch a remote control for music on their phone though and that won’t work for them anymore. I think being able to stream any and everything on your watch with a Series 3 is meant to fix that, but it kind of leaves previous gen users in the dark.

Any stories about the new TV os update or is pretty minimal? I'm looking forward to checking it out at home to see if anything major is noticeable.

Just tested this and it will work that way. Looks like the issue is really just the removal of source changing between phone/watch in the Music app.
