anyone going to a Zwanze Day? I was thinking about going to Monk's, but apparently it's absolutely insane there so I've decided against it.

 

I thought about going to the one in Chicago for a bit as it seems pretty reasonable for unlimited food and beer, but decided against it as some other conflicts came up.

I am actively happy that I moved across the street from a brewery that does belgian-inspired sours, imperial IPAs, and imperial stouts (Une Annee/Hubbard's Cave). I spent waaaay too much money there on Sunday.

 

I've never wanted to actually put myself through it, but I've heard Monk's isn't too crazy. Super packed, for sure, but I've heard they handle it well.

Dunno what else they have on the distro market right now, but Le Seul XXI is an awesome pina colada inspired wild ale. Definitely look for that one.

 

I said last year that I would go this year and now I'm saying that I'll go next year. I really should, I just balk at the price point, even though I know it'd be worth it.

What's the price for the unlimited food and beer? Is it ticketed?

Monk's is just so narrow. I don't consider myself claustrophobic by any means (I enjoy concerts being up close near the stage), but I feel really uncomfortable about basically always touching other people in a non-concert or club setting. I also heard that you need to get there by 9:00-9:30 to get in and my friend jokingly said that you need to be there by 5:00am to get a table. But I'm not sure how much he was joking. Waiting three hours for it to open and then waiting three hours for the beer and to be standing and touching other people the whole time isn't that appealing to me. Maybe I'll brave it next year though. I really wish they ticketed it or they only allowed a certain number of people in the door. I do love that they do it as a fundraiser though and that tap list for the event is drool-inducing.

What's the price point near you? Is it ticketed? A friend of mine is going to Trillium for Zwanze Day and I'm jealous that it'll be contained and not too packed.

 

It's $100. I don't know if it's ticketed. Part of the reason I don't want to go is that I've been at like nine festivals this year, so I kinda want to avoid them haha. And I just think $100 is a lot, though I understand why it's that expensive.

Comparatively, the Zwanze Day at Side Project in St. Louis is $75, but food is not included (Zwanze Day 2017 Details!).

 

$100 is definitely a lot. That's absurd. It'll be $15 a pour at Monk's. Granted, you're waiting in line starting early in the morning, but still. My friend's going up to Trillium and I think she said it's $15 a person for a pour of the Zwanze and a glass.

At least it's an open bar, but that's still wildly expensive.

 

Side Project is awesome. Had some dope beers while there this past week.

I went to the aftermath of Zwanze day at Monks last year. This was after seeing Bear vs Shark. Didn't get any Cantillion but they still had Russian River Supplication on tap which is delicious. So that was cool.

 

Sorry I didn’t clarify, that gets you into the festival and your ticket guarantees you a zwanze pour. Plus jolly pumpkin is rolling out special beers they don’t put out else where plus bottles from tired hands, monkish, etc etc. their lineup looks insane but hard for me to pull the trigger.

 

I miss when the bar down the street (Redlight Redlight) used to host it in Orlando. It's now on both coasts and is now more festival style instead of just being a pre-buy ticket for your pour. Last year it was there, I just showed up later in the day, got some non-Zwanze pours of Cantillon (tried some of my friend's Zwanze), and just had a good time without a lot of money being spent.

 

Going to Copenhagen Beer Celebration in Boston this weekend and planning on hitting Trillium on the way home on Sunday. I highly doubt it, but I'm hoping there is something leftover from Zwanze if I get there right at opening on Sunday.

 

I'm sure it's a great line-up, but like you said, that's a hefty price. completely understandable why you're not pulling the trigger.

 

2 out of 3 sessions in and I think I’ve given out more 5* untappd ratings than I had in the past few years combined. This fest is absurd.

 

Had a couple of Three Floyds shelf beers this weekend (Robert the Bruce, LaserSnake), and it further solidified the fact that their beers are overrated and overpriced. Other than Zombie Dust and their imperial IPAs, I haven't been impressed with a lot of the stuff I've had from them recently.

 

My buddy said that the best beer he had at Zwanze day at Jolly Pumpkin was the Three Floyds Lambic. go figure.

 

I haven't had the Lambic so I can't comment on that. If it's on tap somewhere I'm at, I'll probably try it. Definitely not going out of the way to get it though. My commentary is probably more about their shelf beers than their limited releases.

 

Oh, I wasn't criticizing your opinion on it, just found it interesting that my buddy raved about it. I personally agree with you; I see why people freaked out about Zombie Dust but I have no desire to ever buy some again. It's alright.

Zombie Dust is still a solid hoppy pale ale that I'll get if I can find it. Keyword being the last four words of that sentence.

 

Yesterday was my fifth anniversary with my girlfriend and to celebrate we cracked a bottle of cascade blueberry ale. We'd never had anything from cascade before but it was really good (although too pricey to get regularly).

Tonight I'm going to a beer cafe with my mom. It's their anniversary celebration and they will supposedly have cantillon's framboise on tap. Never had anything from cantillon before so I'm super psyched. Great week for beer!

 

My favorite sour I’ve had was from Cascade. I’ve also never had any Cantillon but I’ve heard great things.


I have been enjoying the brews @BlueEyesBrewing sent me. Some really incredible stuff. Galaxy Fort Point and Julius we’re my two favorites so far.
