    Play the Yakuza series

Why are some people such fucking idiots on R6S? Unbelievable that in gold ranked games people can't adapt to the most basic thing

So PSA for PS4 dudes, Battlefront's season pass is free right now for PS Plus members. If you got the game, get the pass and lets do the Death Star run.

They aren't really, lots ot "business men" move around between very different companies without turning all of them into the same company. Most of the stuff his old company is known for isn't even transferable to Telltale even if he wanted to.

I never bought Battlefront, but I do plan on getting BFII. Are you telling me I have to buy the game, but then buy a "season pass" to play online?

No, season pass is DLC, new maps (and modes?) and shit. I think BFII changes the model somewhat.

No, the season pass just had the best content of the game: Cloud City, Death Star, etc. Big criticism of the game when it launched was that it was relatively sparse on content.

Were all of those DLC packs available at launch with the season pass or was it released very slowly?

Released slowly. The final one was the planet from the end of Rogue One. Initial release might was March, July, September and then December the year following the game's release. They had free content peppered throughout every month which was nice.

Seasons Passes (paid map packs in general) for shooters are dumb though, I'm glad their slowly disappearing in favor of free maps and paid cosmetics (or loot crates or whatever)

So, as maybe the only fan of the series here, I gotta gush about Ys VIII a little bit. Destiny 2 has taken up A LOT of my recent gaming time (shout out to my Chorus D2 buddies) but I've found time in between grinding loot to play a lot of Ys VIII and it's so, so good. The series likes to reinvent itself pretty frequently - the past three games (VII, Memories of Celceta, VIII) turned the series from a solo action JRPG affair to a party based one, adding multiple playable characters with different weapons and fighting styles to Adol, the classic sword wielding anime-as-fuck protagonist. The trade-off was taking away jumping, which was a crucial component of the combat, dungeons and puzzles of the previous "era" of games. Ys VIII adds the jumping back in and makes this game's combat perhaps the best in the series - it's incredible fast, there's a ton of variety in special moves to add to the basic hack and slashing, mobility and dodging feels wonderful and the characters are all fun to use (and necessary to use as you're constantly swapping between them to exploit weakness to a certain damage type).

The premise of the game is interesting, especially compared to the typical JRPG type fare of the last couple games - you're on a ship that gets wrecked and you're stranded on an island. You find other passengers of the ship and start to build a settlement on the island, finding more and more as you explore. It's been a cool feature so far - as you stumble upon new people exploring, the main town expands with new vendors and features and you build up the stores' stocks by completing side quests for them. The exploration of the island has been really fun as well, with a sort of Metroidvania type aspect to it all - as you progress and find the game's dungeons, you unlock all sorts of traversal abilities which allow you to progress further in different locations of the island and find all sorts of secrets (and the game's map is pretty great at automatically marking areas that you come across but aren't able to progress past yet). The story has been pretty solid so far (although the localization lacks some of the charm of previous games because of a different publisher) and the characters have been fairly well developed even if they're mostly some JRPG anime archetypes.

Anyway, this is one of my favorite games of the year, perhaps one of the best entries in one of my favorite series, so I just had to type up a bit about it.

Oh, and the soundtrack is absolutely incredible, as all Falcom's soundtracks are.

It's fine, it's snappy so that's good, but I've only played Yakuza 0 (which isn't snappy) and I downloaded Let It Die

I bought Ys, just haven't been able to give it much time due to D2, but plan to this week after tonight. Still like in chapter 1. Always been a big fan of the series, even if I haven't played many of them. Then again, I'm a sucker for jrpgs.

I'd never heard of this series at all, which is weird. Definitely going to look into it. Sounds like it's right up my alley.
