This was really the toughest for me but Waste is my favorite song on the record and just super fun to play too.

In the Water
Could really go either way on this one but I do like the chorus of this one more and skip it less.

This one has really grown on me since the release.

I'd agree with that. How do you feel about his solo stuff? His last solo album might be the best thing he's ever done.

 

I was about to post my thoughts on the Brand New vs TBS subject, but I would probably get banned for saying that.

 

451: I can count on one hand how many key changes I like. In general, I kind of hate them. I think they're corny as hell and most songs could do without them. When Instigator came out, I might've been mildly annoyed that Daydrunk featured one. Anyways I'm very about the key change here, and I couldn't tell you what exactly it is. There's something insistent about it, like it's blowing up my expectations whether I want it to or not. The song in general is also stellar and I'm consistently impressed by how quickly and easily they were able to set a mood with it.

In The Water: I love No Control a lot. "Love is in your actions/ I found a job/ so let me find ten million distractions" is one of my favorite lines on the album. That being said, it doesn't really compare to ITW. It feels like a decisive moment in the album, a song that defines what this iteration of Brand New is like. I really can't overstate how important it's become to me on repeat listens, especially the idea of striving for something that you think is worth it but in doing so you're taking bigger and bigger risks. That resonates.

Same Logic/Teeth: almost sat this round out because I couldn't decide which to vote for. In the end, this is a song I didn't know I was waiting for. It's difficult to talk about this one, besides just talking about how immediate it was and continues to be for me.

Lit Me Up: I think I could've gone either way on this. Out of Mana is awesome, hell is digital is a great lyric, I think the band is operating in top form here, etc. But there's something about Lit Me Up being the first song to shatter all my notions of what I wanted the album to be like while also priming me for what came next that is extremely impressive. And the rhythm section is really the best part of this song which also helps to ingratiate itself to me when I've felt like Brian and Garret don't always get their due.

Really there's nothing wrong with this album. We're all going to have different favorites because every song is great. It's really a testament to this album.

There are times during Lit Me Up where it feels like they could let loose but I love how they hold back. Makes me appreciate the eeriness.

Same Logic will get my vote as long as it's in this bracket.

At this moment in time No Control is probably my least favorite on SF

451 and Waste is the hardest one this round. 451 is unique to their discography but that last verse in Waste is fucking killer. Think I'm going with unique. Maybe a year from now I'll change my mind
