i like the original version of Frozen Creek but it makes sense to do what they did to it on the album, otherwise it may have sounded too similar to Spirit In The Stairwell

    not imo at all

I like the build to the chorus in the original. Don't like that the studio one has the typical soft verse then the loud chorus thing going on. Feels less emotional to me.

I don't think I've ever listened to Frozen Creek before it was released on BSN, but the live version they played at their Live At The Shrine DVD and the Descensus tour where it's still a mellow first chorus and then explodes immediately after that is awesome and I prefer it. Is that how it was played before BSN came out?

Maybe it's just my copy/download, but does the volume fade in and out on "At Night It Gets Worse" for anyone else?

Really curious for people to hear it who didn't hear it that way first. From what you're saying about the Shrine version it seems you'll appreciate this too

It was weird. I don't remember it sounding like that the first couple times through, then it was really obvious when I played it a bit ago. I don't know. I'll try again later and if it happens again, I'll just use my digital download that comes with the vinyl.

A few of the songs I was slightly unsure of back on Tuesday are growing on me very quickly and I'm hearing them totally differently just a few days later. I'm not sure that's happened for me since some of OLG's less flashy tracks (Mandala, Greatest Lie, etc.).

Definitely getting confident this will sit safely at #3 above BSN as it keeps sinking in.

Either way, this is such a pleasant surprise and exceeded my lukewarm expectations by a mile.

Am I the only one who has passionately loved Mandala since day 1? Everyone talks about how they had to come around to it.

    Mandala rules hard

and it's pretty flashy really. prob one of their craziest and most off kilter (in the chorus at least) so idk where that came from

    always and forever

Mandala took no coming around for me. Loved it when I first heard those crazy drums and guitar. I like the William Blake reference too

I totally loved it within a week of the album leaking. But it was one of the OLG songs slightly less atmospheric/psychedelic than Juturna, and also less explosive than "In the Morning..." (which they'd released months out, so it really framed expectations) and that ilk... I just had to adjust my expectations on the first few listens.

I guess by less flashy I meant in terms of intensity and melodic craziness. But really, my comment applies more to Travel Hymn and Greatest Lie... Mandala really is phenomenal and has great layering, vocal harmonies, etc.

Travel Hymn was always weakest on OLG for me and others from what I've seen. Not that it's weak but yeah definitely overall below the other tracks by a bit. I'd still call it good though. The verse melody is endearing.

Real talk, the bridge section of The Greatest Lie is one of the best moments on the album. I love that song.

Greatest Lie might have been the first circa song I heard and I really loved it immediately.
