Paraphrasing this from somewhere (maybe even this thread) but this album is a lot like Boxer for me, where it takes a little while to fully grab you. Songs like Day I Die and Guilty Party grabbed me immediately and now the rest are starting to catch up too.

 

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought that dude was being ridiculous, haha.

 

I don't listen to this band's other records very much anymore for a variety of reasons, some good some not and most of them very personal, but I fucking love this album.

 

The National already have another album's worth of new material written - NME

Get Lonely by the Mountain Goats is depressing. The National is usually 50% sad, 20% drunk, 20% funny and 10% angry.

I love records from my favorite bands. But there is definitely something to be said for "too much of a good thing". I like the traditional 2-3 year album cycle where the 9-15 songs realeased can get the attention they deserve. That includes the live setting.

 

Also there is a story like this after a majority of big releases. Kanye was gonna drop 3 albums last year.

 

Anyone watching the stream? They sound fantastic and the sound is mixed pretty well
