Hmmm that's my second least favorite on the record probably

 

I'd say Vices is my #6 BN song or something like that. Sowing Season might be like #9.

I'd vote Bride over Tommy Gun. But I've already said Sowing Season is my favorite BN song. So there isn't anything I'd vote for over that.

You really should just make it your least favorite. Then it would truly live up to its name.

In terms of "quintessential" Brand New songs, I don't think Vices stacks up. It's a good song and works great as an intro to Daisy, but it's not the first thing I think of when I reflect on what makes Brand New great.

 

If it makes you feel better my tie breaker WOULD have been for Vices.

So quintessential and best/favorite are not hand in hand: but I think Vices is both.

It's quintessential because of the intro, and then the shock value, as an introduction to the bands most divisive album. Vices is very much an important part of their lore. I think it was pretty clear from Vices that Daisy was not going to be like anything they had done before. Even if you don't agree it's one of their great songs, I can't really imagine introducing someone to BN/this album but telling them to skip Vices.

But as I've said before, that's not the only reason it's one of my favorites.

 

I think Vices is probably the most irreplaceable part of the Daisy experience. It is also a song I hold in extremely high regard.

But if I could listen to just one of those songs, it would be Bride. That's how I decided between the two. Vices matters more in the context of the album. I think Bride is the better solo song experience.

It really just comes down to the criteria for each person.

 

I unliked this once I read the second part, but I get you're reasoning. I disagree because I'm not a huge Bought a Bride fan, but I understand.

I actually find the whole experience of determining my vote to be really enjoyable. I never bothered to "rank" songs. I just kind of know my favorites. So this has been really informative and forced me to really examine each song.

Vices and Bride are both probably in the same tier for me. So I'd definitely vote Vices over Gasoline, if it somehow comes back.

Yea it's a lot of fun. Some match ups are really obvious for me, but that ones that aren't it is really cool to really critically listen to the song and ask why I like it. And I gave you the like back on the other post for your last sentence.
