I'm pretty sure at least some of this is the "mellow album" they've been self-reportedly intermittently writing since after VW.

Yeah at least 60% of the record sounds like what most of us who loved Juturna/OLG would've wanted as LP3. The production sucks, too, so it's even more amazing how much I'm liking it right away.

what is wrong with the production? I think the guitar and bass tones are fantastic and the vocals sound really clean here. my only issue is it occasionally gets a bit muddy in the master.

idk i think it would feel like it dragged on a bit more. its by no means a short record 10 songs 43 minutes is a nice length. Rather have 10 quality songs than filler.

I'm going to have to listen to Rites some more but I've been meh on it. And Lustration seems a little ho hum and lacking wow factor compared to the rest of the album.

Just overall muddiness, very little separation, and the lack of high end I complained about awhile earlier in the thread. I didn't love Descensus production but thought it was decent, whereas this is almost detracting from the songs some - for me, of course.

I like this a good bit. So far I've been loving Lustration, Tunnel Vision, Flesh And Bone, amd the title track. Some of it's gonna take some growing on me, but there's a lot of cool, interesting things going on with this album and I love that they doubled down on the atmospheric and mellow side of their sound after the much more aggressive Descensus.

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

That sounds like a bad idea to experience a new circa record for the first time. My iPhone speakers blow.

premonition of the hex is throwing out a lot of Juturna vibes.
Nick has a great bass groove thru the whole track

the production on flesh and bone sounds like it was recorded live in room.
this album is a lot more varied than I anticipated for 10 songs.

on first listen, i like this and think it'll be a grower, i don't think it'll top juturna or blue sky noise for me, but it's very solid and what i was expecting after descensus and the saosin album. i figured they would go with a mellower more atmospheric side. but, there is some really cool dueling guitar work, and some light catchy and rocking vibes which i enjoy and want to get to know, it's definitely a fresh take on their sound. i do kinda wish anthony hit some of those screamy growly high notes a bit clearer, i know he likes to take a "live" approach to studio vocals nowadays, but i think the album could have peaked a bit higher if he would of hit those notes in a soaring juturna style. but, i can't wait to listen more, i think this one will grow a lot and stay with me more than the last two albums have!

  25. Kinda bummed that I zoned out a lot while listening to this the first time, but the parts that grabbed me really grabbed me so I know once I can focus a little more I know I'm gonna wind up liking this a lot.

Pretty much immediately like it more than the last record though. Agreed that this is the best Ant has sounded in years
