Matt's Trio influence would work so well in Blink, with Mark and Travis also being huge fans of The Cure. I hope they utilize their shared influences in a bigger way on the next album.

Yeah I hear you. The Deluxe album bummed me now a bit, I had high hopes but outside of maybe 4 or 5 songs the rest is pretty much filler/b sides and forgettable. Which I guess is ok because those songs were that but if they put that out as a new album that would suck.

Bill Stevenson's production was great on My Shame Is True was great and very Crimson-ish in places, if they combined that with Mark's Cure influences and Skiba doing Skiba things, it could very well be my favorite album ever.

Just by typing this I've ruined the next blink album already for everyone

Last Train Home and Long Lost Feeling gave me hope for an improvement over Cali even if they stick with Feldmann though

  6. Travis said that they "accidentally wrote a whole new album" with the Deluxe, so a lot of those songs were written after the initial California sessions. I think Travis also said that it would have been a new separate album, but it was too soon for them to release something new, so they had to just make it a "Deluxe" version of the album, or whatever. They also said it was better than California. So like, I don't know what the band is even thinking... It seems like their idea of what's good has changed or something.

I don't remember which songs were written for California that didn't make the cut but obviously Hey I'm Sorry and 6/8 were ones that didn't make the cut and were from the original recordings. I think I remember them saying Good Old Days was an original recording but cut it because it sounded too much like Kings and Teenage Satellites. I know Parking Lot and Misery were written post California. I want to say Wildfire was too.

I'm still holding out hope that Mark's comments about the new album being more like Untitled are true and not just playing it safe again. As much as I liked California I want something different for the next album. California served its purpose of getting the band back into the mainstream again with a new member, I think because of that and them growing as a new band will give them more rope to experiment a bit.

  8. Amen. One thing that I loved about Blink-182 was that when I first discovered them in '99, it was exactly the kind of music I needed in my life. Then in 2001, I was a little bit older but also liked some other bands by then, and TOYPAJ totally fit in with my music tastes that time. Then, in 2002, I was listening to other bands and BCR totally fit into what I liked at that time. And then, it was the same story with Untitled. So basically, their music was changing in those few years along with my tastes and it somehow was always right on the money with what I was already listening to. Obviously, the break up through everything off, so when Neighborhoods came out, I wasn't super into it. And now with California and the deluxe, it's such a step backwards that I only feel the urge to listen when I'm feeling nostalgic, you know? I really hope that whatever they do next isn't catered to the young fans. I hope it caters to us who are growing up with them.

If Alkaline do record another album, watch it be with Feldman.

  10. Well it falls all on Matt at this point.

Yes exactly my thoughts and feelings too. I feel like with each major life event blink (and the side projects except anything after the first AVA album) had released a new album that fit into what was going on with my life, even Neighborhoods. That's probably why I like California more than others because my first kid was born last year and it put me on a huge nostalgic kick thinking about myself growing up so it fit. But like you, I just want the band to evolve for their next album.

Don't think this would fly with Dan and Derek. That is not the kind of music they're at all interested in making.

  14. Bill Stevenson forever! After Blink picked up Matt, I was actually shocked that they didn't go with Bill. He was the only option that made sense in my head, and then they announced Feldmann... haha.

  15. Dan and Derek are above that to be honest.

Bill or Matt Allison are their go-to guys, which is totally fine... but I wouldn't mind them working with someone different. Not Feldmann tho, no thank you.

honestly, I don't think it's fair for either of you to assume what Dan or Derek personally feel about anything. I'll bet a few years ago you both would have thought that "Blink 182 is not music that Matt is interested in making" or that he would be "above it"

No, I wouldn't have considering other collaborations he's done and bands he's a fan of. He was doing things a lot of people wouldn't have figured he'd do well before blink. And given e-mail exchanges and actual conversations I've had with Derek at least, I think it's fair enough giving my opinion on their artistic interests and endeavors, just like every single other person giving their opinion itt and all over this website...

  20. I don't know if I'd say that. Like Aubrey, I've had conversations with Dan and Derek as well. From the sounds of it they have no interest in it. And the whole Matt and Blink thing you're honestly wrong about. Bad to assume something like that.
