Yeah I mean it's not an awful song, this band's bar is very high. I just think the best part of this album is how it feels like the band pushed their comfort zone significantly more than on the last two albums while still feeling very much like The National. Day I Die certainly falls into the latter group but to me it's much more National by the numbers than the rest of it. It could easily be on TWFM, but I don't think it's as strong of a hook as the better stuff on there.

I think right now this is my second least favorite National album. It's great though.

This needs a long time to settle for me haha. This is my favorite band so atm I'm just so happy I have new music by them. But this was far more immediate than TWFM and that's probably my second favorite if not favorite.

Yeah, I'm sure my opinion of this record will only improve with time. I remember back when I first heard Boxer and I didn't understand the hype at all, and then..

Sad Songs is always last. I never count self-titled. Everything beyond that is a crapshoot.

lmao I kind of agree. Day I Die doesn't really do anything for me but I have to say I liked it much better in the context of the album rather than a stand alone single

This is probably going to be my quintessential laying-in-bed-in-the-dark album this fall and winter.

    Fight the long defeat.

Per the band's announcement, if anyone has an extra redemption code from a concert ticket, I'll go ahead and raise my hand for it (planning to purchase the album when next paid).

Sorrow was the song that made me a National fan. "Sorrows a girl inside my cake" was the first thing I remember resonating about the band to me.
